APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS

The following codes and standards are intended to provide an acceptable level
of quality for materials and products. The Contractor may propose alternative
codes and standards provided they give an equivalent degree of quality as the
referenced codes and standards and are submitted for Royal Commission

Requirement
for

SUBMITTALS
The Contractor shall submit to the Royal Commission the following items for
review and acceptance before commencing work:

A.

Copies of manufacturer's catalogues containing technical specifications for all


fixtures, trim and accessories proposed.

B.

Three color samples, where other than white fixtures are proposed.

C.

Drawings showing the proposed methods of installation for all fixtures.

PRODUCT HANDLING

A.

Deliver materials in original, sealed, protective packaging to prevent damage to


the material and finish.

B.

Store all fixtures in an upright position, above ground and in a dry place. Trim
and accessories shall also be stored above ground in a dry place.

PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1

GENERAL

A.

All goods and products covered by these specifications shall be procured, when
available, from an in-Kingdom manufacturer. Procurement of all goods and
products manufactured out-of-Kingdom must be approved by the Royal
Commission.

B.

All fixtures, trim and accessories shall be furnished by a manufacturer or


supplier, regularly engaged in the manufacture or supply of plumbing fixtures. All
fixtures shall be manufacturer's standard and shall not be "factory close-out",
"end of the product model", or otherwise discontinued models.

C.

Ceramic ware plumbing fixtures shall be constructed of dense, durable, nonabsorbent materials and shall have smooth, impervious surfaces, of even color
and un-warped, free from unnecessary concealed fouling surfaces. All fixtures
conform in quality and design to nationally recognize applicable standards or to
other approved standards acceptable to Royal Commission.

D.

Enameled ware shall be constructed of smooth, sound, iron castings, properly


finished and provided with first- quality high-temperature enamel. Fittings for
fixtures shall be of heavy red brass castings, properly finished and chrome
plated. Escutcheons shall be of brass, saw-tooth type. All exposed IPS piping
and tubing shall be of red brass, chrome plated.

All plumbing fixtures and fittings shall be of the water conservation type.

WATER CLOSETS:
Western Water Closet (WWC):
1.

Western water closets shall be floor mounted type, with flush tank and
elongated siphon jet water saving closets. Trim shall be chromium plated
brass.

Water Closet Seats Toilet seats shall be solid white plastic with high rise
seat hinges. Water closet seats shall be of smooth non-absorbent
material. Seats shall be sized for the water closet bowl.

3.

Flush Tank - The flush tank for the water closet shall conform to SASO
1257 and 1477 equipped with controlling devices that automatically refill
after discharge of water. Tank capacity shall not be more than 3 liters (0.8
Gals) of water per flushing as per Table 604.4 of the IPC. The tank shall
have overflow opening above the flood level rim of the water closet or
above the secondary overflow of the flush tank. Anti siphon fill valve shall
be provided conforming to SASO 1480 and installed at least 25 mm
above the full opening of the overflow pipe.

Western Water Closet (Handicapped) (WWCH):


Western water closet (WWCH) shall be as (WWC) except for its mounting
height designed for physically handicapped person conforming to the
requirements as per ANSI A117.1.
Final selection shall be done by the Royal Commission.

C.

Eastern Water Closet (EWC):


1.

Fixture - Eastern Water Closet shall be squat type, compact bowl, nonskid foot tread, rear inlet connection, cast iron low profile P-trap with
mechanical seal. The water closet shall conform to SASO 1258.

2.

Each water closet shall be provided with a concealed flush valve


(Flushometer Valve).

Flushometer Valve Flushometer valve shall comply with SASO 1477.


Associated vacuum breaker of the flushometer valve shall conform to the
performance requirements of ASSE 1001 and shall be provided with a
means regulating the water flow.
D.

Perineal Spray (PS):


Perineal spray hose shall be provided at each water closet and shall be of a
non-corrosive flexible metallic material and have chrome plated fittings with a 19
mm self-closing valve. Hose shall have a hanging bracket. A vacuum breaker
shall be provided between the self closing valve and the service shut-off. Hose
shall be mounted to the right of the user.

Each water closet shall be no more than 3 liters (0.8 Gals) of water per flushing
as required per Table 604.4 of IPC.
LAVATORIES (LAV)
LAV (Public Areas or Commercial Buildings)
1.

Fixture - Lavatory (LAV) shall be ceramic wall or pedestal mounted,


conforming to SASO 1476. Lavatories shall have waste outlets not less
than 32 mm in diameter. A strainer, pop-up stopper, crossbar or other
device shall be provided to restrict the clear opening of the waste outlet.

2.

Faucet - Faucets shall be chromium plated brass and shall have cold and
hot water supply, single lever type. Faucets shall conform to ASME
A112.18.1. Water consumption shall be as per Table 604.4 of IPC.

LAVH (Handicapped)
Lavatories (LAVH) shall be as (LAV1) except for its mounting height designed for
physically handicapped person conforming to the requirements as per ANSI
A117.1.
Final selection shall be done by the Royal Commission.

KITCHEN SINK (KS):


1.

Fixture - Sink shall be single/double compartment conforming to ANSI


Z124.6 / ASME A112.19.1M / ASME A112.19.2M / ASME A112.19.3M /
ASME A112.19.4M / ASME A112.19.9M. Sinks shall be provided with
waste outlets a minimum of 40 mm in diameter. A strainer or crossbar
shall be provided to restrict the clear opening of the waste outlet. The
overall approximate dimensions shall be _800_ mm long by _500_ mm

wide with a compartment size of approximately _330_ mm x _330_ mm x


_250_ mm.

Faucets - Faucets shall be one piece body, non rotating rubber diaphragm
steel seal and valve, with chrome handles and chrome 200 mm tabular
gooseneck swing spout with aerator and flow restrictor. Faucets shall
conform to ASME A112.18.1 and CSA B125. Water consumption shall be
as per Table 604.4 of IPC.

3.

Accessories
a.

Supply assemblies - shall be all chrome plated with 12.5 mm angle


stop valve, 12.5 mm male threaded inlet tube 12.5 mm flexible tube
riser and inlet escutcheon.

b.

P-Trap - Provide 32 mm chrome plated cast brass P-trap with


bottom clean out and plug, 32 mm chrome finish tubing to wall,
chrome finished nuts and escutcheon plate.

ELECTRIC WATER COOLER (DRINKING WATER FOUNTAIN):

Water cooler shall be wall hung, surface mounted with stainless steel basin and
enameled cabinet. The unit shall be provided with a single stainless steel
bubbler with remote automatic stream regulator and shall have the inlet through
the wall behind cabinet. The unit shall be provided with a shut-off stop valve and
a minimum 32 mm P-trap with cleanout for through the wall discharge.

B.

The unit shall provide a minimum of 48 liters per hour of 9C water with supply
water at 30C and room temperature of 37C.

C.

Refrigeration unit shall be a minimum 1/5 hp with standard electrical


characteristics or as shown on the Contract drawings. Condenser unit to be air
cooled.

D.

All plumbing and electrical connections to be concealed behind removable


access plate. Manufacturer to furnish hanger for wall mounting of unit.

SHOWER UNIT
Fixtures shall be built-in type, porcelain enamel steel, cast iron or fiberglass
construction. Unit shall be _800 mm__ x __800 mm__ x __150 mm__ standard
size and shall have integral shower head control with faucets. Faucets shall be
chrome plated brass with single lever, thermostatic and pressure balance control
and red and blue indicators for hot and cold water.

B.

Surrounding enclosure shall be waterproofed and made of fiberglass or ceramic


tile lined. Each unit shall be complete with fittings, supports, fastening devices,
faucets, valves, traps, and other appurtenances.
Shower head shall be in conformance to the requirements of ANSI/ASME
standard A 112.18.1M, CSA B-125.

ABLUTION FAUCETS (AF)


Ablution faucets shall be mixing type, single lever, chrome plated, female flanged
connection, wall mounted. Faucets shall conform to ASME A112.18.1 and CSA
B125. Water consumption shall be as per Table 604.4 of IPC.
Final selection shall be done by the Royal Commission.

EMERGENCY SHOWER AND EYEWASH (ES/EW)


Free-standing emergency shower and eyewash to comply with ISEA Z358.1
requirements. Emergency shower and eyewash shall be designed for high
corrosion resistance Consist of schedule 40 hot dipped galvanized steel with
green corrosion resistant epoxy coating pipe and fittings with yellow ABS plastic
shower heads, black ABS plastic dual-stream eye wash heads with bright yellow
PVC bowl. Shower is activated with a PVC coated pull rod. The 1 ball valve
stays open until manually closed. Eye wash has PVC stay-open ball valve, push
handle and automatic flow regulator. With two wall braces and 10 diameter
floor flange.
FLOOR DRAINS AND TRENCH DRAINS

A.

Floor drains shall comply with ANSI A112.6.3, ASME A112.3.1. Trench drain
shall comply with ASME A112.6.3.

B.

Floor drains shall be supplied with:


1.

Cast iron body.

2.

Bottom inside caulk connection suitable for UPVC pipe connection.

3.

Flashing collar.

4.

Leveling adjustment.

5.

Strainer Top:
a.

150 mm Diameter, polished bronze, for rest rooms, toilets,


laboratory rooms, and first aid areas.

b.

220 mm Diameter, cast iron, for equipment rooms.

c.

320 mm Diameter, non-tilting beehive dome covered with copper


mesh screen secured by bolts through gravel stop; flashing clamp
integral with gravel stop, for planting area type.

Flashing clamp and waterproofing membrane.

C.

Removable strainer shall be and have waterway area of not less than the area of
the tailpiece.

D.

Open hub drains for indirect or equipment waste shall be as indicated on the
Contract drawings.

E.

All gaskets and accessories required to install floor drains in UPVC drain pipe
shall be provided.

F.

Self priming floor drains shall be permitted only where indicated on the drawings
and approved in advance by the Royal Commission.

G.

Floor drains serving water heater areas shall be of deep seal type.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1

INSTALLATION

A.

Set plumbing fixtures tight, level, and rigid on proper grounds. Use setting
compound under all setting surfaces.

B.

Provide required trim including supplies, loose-keyed stops, wastes, traps and
floor and wall escutcheon plates.

C.

Protect fixtures after they are set. Thoroughly clean them at the completion of
the project.

D.

General Plumbing Criteria:


1.

Shut off valves shall be supplied for each fixture or to banks of two or
more fixtures; where required for proper system control; at entrances of
buildings and to all equipment and controls.

2.

Concealed valves shall be provided with access opening complete with


cover plates.

3.

Install unions on one side of all valves, equipment connections and


elsewhere as shown or required for ease of service and/or installation,
unless flanges are indicated.

4.

All units shall be accessible.

5.

Minimum branch pipe size shall be 15 mm nominal.

Rough-in: Sizes of final connections to plumbing fixtures shall be in accordance


with the Royal Commission Plumbing Code (RCPC).
Mounting Heights: (unless shown otherwise on drawings)
1.

Water Closet - Standard: 380 mm floor to rim.

2.

Water Closets Handicapped: 457 mm floor to rim.

3.

Lavatories - Standard: 787 mm floor to rim.

4.

Kitchen Sinks 762 mm floor to rim.

5.

Drinking Fountains - Adult Standard: 1.0 m floor to rim.

6.

Wash Fountains - Wall mounted: 60 mm floor to rim.

7.

Shower Heads - 2.0 m floor to centerline.

8.

Shower Control Valve - 1.20 m floor to centerline

9.

Ablution Faucets: 900 mm floor to centerline.

G.

Caulk around all plumbing fixtures with white silicone epoxy type, non-hardening
compound, where fixtures meet floor or wall as required to present a finish
appearance. See Section 07920 on Sealants and Caulking.

H.

Set shower receptors in a leveling bed of cement grout and lead pan.
