Well Being/Mana Atua

Lujain is still settling
back after the holidays,
she is very independent
and will express herself
vocally with ease. If
mum is teaching she is
quick to grizzle or let
out an angry or whiny
sound to quickly get attention with any
conflicts. I have observed when this
happens she will quickly become
frustrated when no one understands what
she is wanting and begin
stamping/jumping and calling Huda
If teachers ask her to do something she
does not wish to do she will shake her head
and say no, if it is something she has to do
like use the bathroom she will also call out
Huda and will not listen to her feelings
being acknowledged.
Contribution/Mana Tangata
Lujain will
initiate play,
games and
conversations
with adults,
peers as well as
large groups and
always responds to interactions. Lujain is
a very happy and social girl.
Lujain understands routines and enjoys
taking responsibility for her environment
and participation.

Belonging/Mana Whenua
Lujain is still
very close to
friend Zaian
but happily
interacts and
initiates play
with all peers.
Lujain loves to participate in group
activities and will always race to join, and
understands turn taking, listening,
following directions. This sometimes sees
her copying teachers speech and
repeating last word of questions as if
reciting Quran.

Communication/Mana Reo
Lujain has been visited at school by an early
intervention specialist at
the mothers request.
Our shared concern is
around her
understanding of
language as what she
understands does not
seem to be expanding as
she continues to use
repetition to try and
grasp communication.
Lujain has reduced the
amount of pronouns she now uses, quickly
becoming frustrated and letting out a
whinge or yell in frustration while looking
for and calling Huda. We are confident this
will improve as she settles back in at An-Nur

Exploration/Mana Aotroa
Lujain enjoys
trying new things
and actively
exploring her
natural
environment.
Lujain loves art and messy exploration.

We are planning to follow any and all

directions advised by the early intervention
worker. Until we have confirmation of advice
we will continue to expose Lujain to a wide
range of vocabulary through conversation,
songs, rhymes and books. Continue to
engage her in games that involve answering
questions and not repetition. Encourage her
to play alongside and with peers of differing
language abilities, while labelling her world
and feelings.
We know Lujain can correctly use no and we
wish to build on this with simple
words/phrases/body language to
communicate her needs such as stop, mine
etc. This will help to reduce any stress and
frustration and allow her to resolve some
conflicts on her own.
