m May 28th 2004, I finished my last subject of the six in my leaving exam for secondary
school. Many of my classmates had already planned summer vacations to relax after a long and
hard working time totally focusing on studying.

However, it was surprising (surprised) that at 6 a.m on the next day, I was sitting in a classroom
of Chu Van An high school, continuing my study to prepare for another entrance exam to this
highly selective school. My routine for nearly one month began with a two - hour literature class
at exact 6 a. m and finished with one two - hour mathematics class at 5 p.m. Getting the score of
fifty six in scale sixty guaranteed a good position for me in a high school of my city, but from the
very first time of my secondary school, I aimed to get a seat in a specialized class rather than a
normal one. My effort in getting the target had been compensated as I was admitted to the
Literature specialized class of Chu Van An high school. In fact, I had no outstanding talent in
literature. Some small awards of literature in the competitions for excellent students did not
assure that I would succeed in my class. To catch up with my classmates who extremely excelled
in literature, the love and interest are not enough, in stead, it was determination. Reading books
has been my habit because sometimes we had to complete a book in just a day. In my opinion,
literature is very hard and complicated since there are many images, opinions, implications that
the author laid behind the words. Fortunately, I found an effective way to reveal them by not
hesitating to ask and learn from my friends and teacher. That was the reason why my teacher is
always disturbed by my phone call even in the midnight.

Moreover, literature has brought to me many new and fresh ideas not only about the novels,
books, masterpieces of many famous authors of Vietnam and the worlds (masterpieces th

masterpieces)but also about life and people. My perspective has grown and matured by many
lessons I got from my teacher. And the most unforgettable one was the lesson about the fish of
our life as we learnt The old man and the sea of Hemingway. Each of us is a fisher and
everyone has a fish a goal a dream for his own life. However, the most important thing
does not lay in how big your dream is but how big your trust, your determination and your
bravery to make your dream come true. I am grateful to three years of being a literature student
that has presented me more than a profound knowledge about literature but a maturity in
thinking and doing anything. (cu ny cu trc c vn , tao tm thm that vo, nu mun

Thanks to many lessons and knowledge I got from my literature class, I already have a clear
picture of my destination in the next four years. Having passed the entrance exam to Foreign
Trade University one of the top universities of my nation, I still want to take another step in my
ladder of education. I know I have the right choice for my future however (however ch ng
u cu thoai) astonished people were when knowing my decision. Having never been abroad, it
will be really a valuable opportunity for me to challenge myself in a strange environment. Taking
care of yourself and deciding everything on your own may be struggling but interesting. Being a
part of a diverse environment is exactly what I expected in my colleges atmosphere. Above all,
the opportunity to have a modern and up to date education inspired me to apply for an US
college.

Upon completing the education at Berea College, I want to further my education by continuing a
master degree in a university. Being a business woman is my desire for the future, thus I will
major in business. To be capable of pursuing a master degree is rather demanding but I believe
that Berea College could provide me the best preparation with many valuable experience and
internship opportunity to make my dream come true.

As I also learnt from my Literature teacher when I suggested her to write a letter of
recommendation for me, I have a strong commitment that to leave is to come back. After
completing the education at Berea College and getting a master degree in business, maybe I will
be offered a job in some US companies. Of course I must take serious consideration about it.
Whether I decide to work for a US company for two or three years or not, I really wish to return
to my home country. All of my family are living here and always willing to welcome me back.
Hanoi is my beautiful hometown where I have lived for twenty years and I doubt that I can not
bear the feeling of missing it everyday. In Vietnam, my friends and relatives take a huge and
irreplaceable position in my heart as they are always besides me whenever I am happy or
gloomy. Last but not least (ci ny tao mi thy ch c trongni thi, cha thy trong writing
bao h, my tm cm khc thay i), I want to learn in a developed country but I desire to work at
a developing one like Vietnam my home country. By this way, the knowledge I experience I get
from your country could do it best to help develop my beloved Vietnam. Undoubtedly, a
developing country which is opening its economy to the world will give me more chance to
explore, discover and devote all of my abilities and talent to my motherland.

I usually set many goals for my life because I want each time chance comes, I will not miss it. I
want to try as many opportunities as possible because I recognize if I try , an one percent
success still may come; in contrast, if I do not try anything, then success will never come at all.
Always keeping this thought in mind, I define each goal as a challenge I need to overcome, and I
am worth a chance to be a part of Berea College in one day not so far, I believe.
