WhatAreSectionsUsedFor?
Sectionsareprimarilyusedforformatting
Ifyouwanttheformattingtoapplyacrossanentire
document,thenyoudontneedsections
But,ifyouwanttochangethewaypagenumbers
aredisplayed(forexample),thenyouneedtouse
sectionbreaks
Section1maycontaintheTableofContents,withnopage
numbers;whileSection2,containstheTableofContents
andTableofFigureswithRomanNumeralPagenumbers;
andSection3containstherestofthedocumentwitha
regulargoodoldnumberset(1,2,3..)

Typesofsectionbreaks
Sectionbreakskeeptheformattingelementslike
margins,pageorientationorsequenceofpage
numbers(moreonthistofollow)
Nextpage insertsasectionbreakandstartsthenew
sectiononthenextpage.
Continuous insertsasectionbreakandstartsthe
newsectiononthesamepage.

UsingSectionBreaks
So,SectionBreaksareusedtodivideyour
documentupintodifferentformattingsections
Asanexample,thefirstsectionmighthaveroman
numeralpagenumberingandthesecondsection
mighthaveregularpagenumbering(ornopage
numberingatall).
Inparticular,theNextPage sectionbreakisveryuseful
inthispurposesinceitstartsthenextsectionatthetop
ofthefollowingpage.

HeaderandFooter
Headersandfootersaretypicallyusedinprinteddocuments
thatincludetextlikepagenumbers,date,etc
Headersareprintedinthetopmarginandfootersare
printedinthebottommargin.
FromtheInsert tab,clickoneitherHeaderorFooterand
youwillbepromptedwiththetypeofheaderyoudliketo
workwith.Chooseanyoftheappropriatestyles,orsimply
clickonEditHeader orEditFooter,andyouwillbegiven
anewmenubarwithheaderorfooterspecificoptions.

ABitMoreonHeadersandFooters
Tomanuallysettheheaderorfooterofthecurrent
sectiontosomethingdifferentthantheprevious
sectionyouneedtogotothatsection,clickon
headerorfooterfromtheinsert tabandthenmake
surethatLinktoPrevious isdeselected.

PageNumbers
Toaddpagenumberstoa
document,dothe
following:
Ifyouwouldliketohave
differentstylesofpage
numbers,firstuseasection
breakandthenclickonthe
sectionyouwanttoinsert
pagenumbersinto.
Onceyouarereadytoputin
thepagenumbersselect
PageNumber fromthe
insert tab,thenyouwillbe
givensomemoreoptions

proceed.
Change this option if you wish to
start again from 1. Select start at
