3. Solve the resulting simultaneous equations to

obtain unknown node voltages.

2. Apply KCL to each of the n-1 nonreference

nodes. Use ohms law to express the branch
currents in terms of node voltages.

1. Select a node as a reference node. Assign

voltages v1, v2, vn-1 to the remaining n-1 nodes.
The voltages are referenced to the reference node.

Mesh Analysis

Methods of Analysis

Circuit above has two meshes, Mesh 1 and Mesh 2

Mesh currents are i1 and i2
Branch Currents are I1, I2 and I3
where i3 = i1 - i2 (algebraic sum of the mesh currents)

Mesh Analysis

Methods of Analysis

3. Solve the resulting n simultaneous equations to

get the mesh currents.

2. Apply KVL to each of the n meshes. Use ohms

Mesh Analysis

Methods of Analysis

Solving equations 1 & 2, yields

i1= i2 = I1 = I2 = 1A I3 = i1- i2 = 0A

Applying KVL to both meshes

Mesh 1 -15 + 5i1 + 10(i1-i2) + 10 = 0.(1)
Mesh 2 -10 + 10(i2-i1) + 6i2 + 4i2 = 0.(2)
