with this simple and reliable tool

EQUALIZER is the First Completion System to

Successfully Create a Uniform Production Profile
Along the Entire Length of a Horizontal Wellbore
Horizontal wells have unique reservoir drainage challenges. Without proactively
managing inflow, early gas or water breakthrough is nearly certain to occur because
frictional pressure drop causes flow to be unevenly distributed and greatest at
the heel of the well. This has serious consequences, including a much shorter
productive life that leaves reserves in the ground, which can be extremely costly.

Reservoir

Stand-alone screen, conventional philosophy

Reservoir

Stand-alone screen, reality

EQUALIZER Screen not only creates a uniform production profile, but also
virtually eliminates any screen to wellbore annular flow. This greatly reduces the
risk of hot-spotting, which is a primary cause of plugging and erosion of sand
control screens. Sand dislodged from the formation will not be transported and
redistributed by annular flow. This reduces the requirement for gravel packing
and increases screen life.
In the past, uncontrolled gas and water coning has also limited the maximum length
of horizontal wells. EQUALIZER frees you from that restriction. You can now
design your completion for maximum reservoir drainage without regard to gas and
water coning risks. This can also reduce the number of wells required for efficient
reservoir drainage, which greatly reduces field development costs.
EQUALIZER is a product of Baker Oil Tools philosophy of Integrated Completion
and Reservoir Management (ICRM). Our ICRM approach coordinates completion
hardware selection with reservoir management strategy to deliver the most effective
completion system. This goes beyond reaching initial flow-rate targets and considers life-of-the-well strategies to maximize the Net Present Value (NPV) of your
producing asset. The goal of ICRM is to leave no reserves in the ground.
EQUALIZER is a proven tool that has gained rapid acceptance since its introduction.
More than 50,000 units have been placed in service worldwide, with an outstanding
record of success. There have been no reported operational, production, or sandrelated problems from wells using EQUALIZER with over two million feet
run. Because of its effectiveness, simplicity, and reliability, EQUALIZER should
be considered as standard equipment for completions in any application where
unequal outflow or inflow is a risk.

EQUALIZER

EQUALIZER and Net Present Value

To help operating companies improve field economics, access greater reserves
with fewer wellbores, and maximize reserve recovery, the technology of choice is
EQUALIZER. This inflow control technology is being utilized to maximize reservoir
contact, minimize water production, prevent water and gas coning, and provide sand
control without gravel packing in open-hole lateral completions in both sandstone and
carbonate formations.
The use of EQUALIZER will do much more than incrementally improve production
efficiency. EQUALIZER can make all the difference in terms of the economic viability
of a well. As the graphs below illustrate, the production efficiency of EQUALIZER can
have a dramatic effect on the Net Present Value (NPV) of your producing asset. These
graphs represent a typical long, high-rate horizontal well. As you can see, the relatively
small cost of EQUALIZER is returned many times over by draining the formation much
more effectively and greatly increasing NPV as a result.

EXCLUDER2000the Industrys Best Premium Sand Screen

is an Integral Part of EQUALIZER
For unconsolidated formations, EQUALIZER incorporates EXCLUDER2000, the
industry-standard for resistance to plugging and erosion. EXCLUDER has been used
successfully in record-breaking applications such as the worlds longest horizontal
gravel pack8,052 ft (2,454 m), the worlds deepest horizontal subsea completion from
a floating rig2,987 ft (853 m) of water, bottomhole temperatures exceeding 300F
(149C), pressures exceeding 15,000 psi (1,034 bar), and lateral sections longer than
13,000 ft (4,000 m).

EQUALIZER CF

EXCLUDER2000 is ideal for sand control applications where durability is paramount.

It combines a protective Vector Shroud, single-layer Vector Weave Filtration Membrane, and a reliable BAKERWELD Inner Jacket for superior drainage and sand
control reliability. EXCLUDER2000 is engineered to survive the harshest conditions.

EQUALIZER CF for Consolidated Formations

For non-sand control applications, EQUALIZER CF is available as a stand-alone
tool. It provides the same benefits as EQUALIZER, at a lower cost. Typical applications include:
Cased-hole horizontal perforated liner
Balancing inflow inside an existing screen liner
Stand-alone in open-hole, consolidated formations (e.g., carbonates)

EQUALIZER is Ideal for a Wide Range of Applications

Long, horizontal wells, especially
those with horizontal runs
beyond 1,500 ft (450 m)
Thin-layered, high-permeability
reservoirs

In horizontal open holes,

EQUALIZER can be used for:
Deferring gas breakthrough
Deferring water breakthrough

Heavy-oil reservoirs

Avoiding selective perforations

Stand-alone screen sand control

A Unique, Helical Inflow Control Device is the Key to

EQUALIZER Effectiveness
A helical Inflow Control Device (ICD) mounted to the base pipe at the end
of each screen enables an equal rate entering each screen along the entire
horizontal section. This has proven to be by far the most effective way to
manage flow distribution along the wellbore. This is the first time that such
a design has been used as a low-velocity flow control element to balance
inflow. This simple solution is highly reliable, immune to erosion, and its
design elements (size pitch, number of channels) can be varied to control
the local production rate at any point along the wellbore. Because the flow
control element works in a wide variety of well conditions, it is ideal for
wells where conditions change over time.
Compartmentalize Your Well with Baker Oil Tools
Formation Packers
By combining EQUALIZER or EQUALIZER CF with the Baker Oil Tools
MPas, XTremeZone, or Reactive Core Formation Packers (RCFP),
you compartmentalize the well and enhance the performance of the
EQUALIZER System. Compartmentalization also allows for commingled
production in wells exhibiting permeability contrasts, multiple zones, or
varying reservoir pressure. This field-proven application has increased oil
production rates and volumetric recovery from several fields.

MPas EQUALIZER Screen One-Trip Open-Hole Completion

Fluid flow is promoted through the

screen, along the screen base pipe
annulus, into the helical ICD. Flow
then enters the base pipe through
a set of holes or a slotted kill filter.

I-RES Integrated Reservoir Simulation Software for EQUALIZER

Baker Oil Tools offers a range of helical ICDs to match the characteristics of your well. To determine the best
selection, we model the formation and ICD using our proprietary I-RES integrated reservoir simulation software.
The foundation of I-RES is the standard, highly capable software used by NASA for thermal/fluid analysis.
The integrated modeling capability of I-RES can measure the economic benefit of ICDs and also quantify the
effects of other types of completion hardware. I-RES is an essential tool for Integrated Completion and Reservoir
Management (ICRM).
Field experience has shown that a range of five helical ICD configurations, which are immediately available off
the shelf, will cover virtually any requirement. For special cases, I-RES can create custom configurations, which
are then manufactured in our facilities. Contact us for details.
