This document is available for 1642EM R3.0.
ATTENTION
EMC NORMS
WHEN CARRYING OUT THE GIVEN OPERATIONS OBSERVE THE NORMS STATED
in the Handbook Guide section of Technical Handbook.
1642EM product all meet with ETSI EN 300386 V1.3.3 Class B qualification (Other than
Telecommunication Center) except the PartNumber list following:
3AL97083BDAA (STM1 ELECTRICAL UNIT board) can meet with and Class A
qualification (Telecommunication Center) only.

1.1 General
The following procedures have been issued and must be observed when unpacking the equipment.
The reciprocal operation must be done for repacking. In such case it is recommended to use the original
packing material.
The following sturdy outer packing material is utilized in order to protect the equipment against mechanical
and climatic stresses to which they are subjected:
wooden crates
for transport by ship, air, on road for periods longer than 60 days
ply-wood crates
cardboard boxes
for

1.2 Unpacking
1.2.1 Preliminary checks
The following information should be printed on the outer crate:
International symbols
side up :
keep dry
fragile
layers
that the final destination of the crates is that indicated on the label;
that no damage was made to the cases
Report any shipping damages to the Companys representative or the Shipping Agent.
1.2.2 Unpacking
When having to unpack proceed as follows:
symbol
make sure that the packing has been properly positioned, refer to the
open the case;
remove the shockproof material;
remove the goods from the case;
remove prepacking, the polyethylene bag and any other protection;
remove the plastic bags cellotaped to the rack and containing accessories;
remove the dehydrating bags;
ascertain that the goods are not damaged and that they correspond to those indicated on the
packing list enclosed in the envelope. Conversely, contact the agencys representative.
N.B.
ED
When unpacking it is advisable to handle the packing material with care; it might be reused
for packing again if it must be reshipped.

1.3 Warehousing
If having to store the packed material, the following requirements must be met:

Fix the two wall kit adapters (2) to the 1642 Edge Multiplexer (1) by four stainless screws (3).
Fix four M6 expansion bolts (4) on the wall. Refer to Figure 8 for the positions for hole drilling.
Fix the equipment to the wall through four lock washers (6), four plain washers (7) and four M6
nuts (5).

N.B. Installation on a wall in 90 degree rotated is not the recommended method because of the safety
consideration.

Unscrew the screw(1) and take out the net of filter (2), see Figure 12
Rinse and dry the net of filter (2)
Put the net of filter(2) back and fix the screw
Insert the filter back to the shelf according to Figure 11
N.B. It is required to clean the filter every 3 month; this period can be shorter depending on the
location environmental conditions.

Annex 1. - Parts making up the Installation set on page 46 shows the parts making up the installation sets.
Annex 2 - Installation cables on page 47 shows the standard cables provided by the factory.
Annex 3 - Suggested cabling on page 48 shows the cables suggested to set-up the connections.
The tables associated to each terminal tagblock also refer to these cables.
ATTENTION:
The equipment is supplied with several connectors. The installer must respect the ESD
precautions presented in the Technical Handbook.
The final equipment configuration can result with empty slots. In this case it is recommended to
cover the empty slots with the DUMMY PLATE 3AL 97082 AAAA. This is necessary for correct
EMI-EMC performances.

Fix AC220B through the two screws (2) with a crossed screwdriver
Install the magnetic ring (with AC board 3AL97077ABAA and 3AL97077ACAA) on the power
supply cable as Figure 19
Insert the power supply cable 3AL97087AAAA (ref 1, Annex2 installation cable) to the supply
socket.
Connect the other side of power supply cable to the power module and fix it well.

SAFETY RULES
In general:
Due to possible very high currents in case of short-circuit at the power input, it is
essential that the power distribution line shall be provided with a short circuit backup protection with adequate breaking capacity.
Make sure that the screws on the power modules (DC48B, FB (-48V) and AC220B)
are not loose when you insert or remove the cable from the power modules.
Put away the power supply cable 3AL97087AAAA (ref 1, Annex2 installation cable) from the
supply socket.
Plug in an extractor (with AC board 3AL97077ABAA and 3AL97077ACAA) into the hole beside the
socket, rotate 90 degree, and then pull out the AC220B.

3.12 OW Interface
3.12.1
EOW module is an optional configuration, It could been fixed on the main board separately, show as Figure
39.
Assembly:
Install EOW module(2) with two spacer supports(1) on the main board. Ensure the nether clips of
spacer supports pass through the two holes on the main board, the corresponding connectors on main board
and EOW module are connected tightly. make sure EOW module and main board contacted well,
Disassembly:
Disconnect EOW module from the lower clips of spacer supports carefully.
Lift EOW module.
