SMK Sri Nangka

1. INTRODUCTION
This program is designed to provide 45 girls from SMK
Sri Nangka, SMK Sungai Damit, and SMK Pekan Telipok (15
students from each school) with an opportunity to improve
their conversational English ability by practicing speaking,
listening, writing, and reading in English within a fun,
informal environment focused on girls' leadership and
teamwork.

2. RATIONALE
The more fun students have during exposure to English,
the stronger their English skills, both listening and speaking,
will be. The purpose of this program is to provide an
opportunity for girls to make friends and immerse
themselves in the English language through activities with
their peers and with ETAs from other secondary schools in
Tuaran. The girls will have the opportunity to use the English
language and think creatively and freely in a relaxed and fun
environment.

3. OBJECTIVE
3.1 Students from SMK Sri Nangka, SMK Sungai Damit,
and SMK Pekan Telipok will interact with and learn
from peers in different classes and forms. ETAs will aim
to include students from all forms and from different
classes that may have different levels of English
proficiency.
3.2 Students will meet and engage with other ETAs in
Sabah, all of whom are native English speakers.
3.3 Students will play games, complete leadership
challenges, and participate in a variety of physical and

creative activities, all focused on improving the

students' effective English-speaking skills and
confidence.
3.4 Students will practice speaking and listening to
English in an informal setting with students and ETAs
from other secondary schools in Sabah.
3.5 Students will participate in sessions intended to
increase confidence in speaking English.

4. PARTICIPANTS
Approximately 45 girls from SMK Sri Nangka, SMK
Sungai Damit, and SMK Pekan Telipok (15 students from
each school) will be chosen to participate in this tri-school
English camp.
ETAs will select students with different
English proficiencies from all forms. As we, the ETAs, are
hoping to engage the students in fun games as well as
substantive discussions in English, we will select these
students based on their capacity to become more excited
about English and become encouraged by a girls' leadershipfocused environment.
