Abstract
Indonesia's energy needs every year experienced a significant increase, thats influenced
by the increase in population and in the growth of the national economy. However, the
amount of energy needs in Indonesia far inversely proportional to the amount of the
existing energy supply. The situation shows that areas in Indonesia needs to be prepared
to face the energy crisis. One of fact that shows Indonesia has begun the energy crisis
phase according to data published by PT PLN Central Java - DIY Distribution be told that
Central Java and Yogyakarta as one of the provinces in Indonesia with a large population
requires electrical energy reached until 3,200 Mega Watts (MW) during peak hours, while
the maximum power supply is only 2,500 MW. Therefore, in addition to internal
efficiency, our efforts are also needed to improve national energy production. Application
of an energy independent village can be done as one of the alternative steps to minimize
that situation. This step is done by optimizing the physical potential of an area, one like
the optimization of Semarangs coastal area with the utilization of alternative energy such
as solar power and wind power. Utilization of both types of natural energy in a coastal
area of Semarang is done based on the physical characteristics of the support, the level of
solar radiation and wind speed level. The level of solar radiation in the coastal zone of
Semarang is strongly influenced by the level of rainfall, relative humidity, and air
pressure are quite stable. Retrieved wind speed data rates in Semarangs coastal areas
ranged from 20-40 knots, which is quite varied trending from the northwest and northeast
(Bambang Triadmadja, 1996). Optimization of physical potential coastal areas can be
implemented through several stages such as determining the location of the construction
of solar panels and windmills, solar panel manufacturing stage and windmills, collection
and processing phases, phase distribution of results, and evaluation. Through this
optimization program is expected to provide solutions to overcome the crisis of energy in
Indonesia.
