Teen Intern
POSITION DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT:

Internship (unpaid)
HOURS:
Minimum 100 hours per year
POSITION PURPOSE:
Teen Interns are an integral part of the MOSHs programs and serve in a variety of
roles in the museum. Interns will assist with summer and winter camps, museum
special events, educational presentations/ programming and with the preparation
for these programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Camp Intern
Positively and appropriately interact with students from K-8 th grade
Assist MOSH Teachers and Education Staff with preparing of lesson
materials
Supervise and assist with experiments, lessons, skits and projects
throughout camp
Assist with Before and After Care for extended day campers as
assigned
Demonstrations Intern (Reserved for veteran Interns)
Engage museum visitors with mini-lessons on science and history
topics
Prep, setup and tear-down demonstration carts on a daily basis
Learn and practice the informational scripts for each demonstration
cart
Ensure an accurate count of museum visitor interactions at your
station
Properly represent the museum, and answer questions to the best of
you ability, even if the answer is Im not sure
Florida Naturalist Center Intern (reserved for veteran Interns)
Support Florida Naturalists Center Staff in the care and preservation of
MOSHs living collections
Assist in the feeding, maintenance and habitat care for the species
residing at MOSH
Be ready to get dirty on tasks, as this is our most hands on internship
and will require some messy assignments
A passion for animals is certainly a must for this position (even snakes)
SPECIAL AUTHORIZATION:

Authorized to have access to all general museum area, and other areas as job
needs arrive (Planetarium, Naturalist center, Education classrooms, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:
To be successful, an individual must be able to perform each job duty satisfactorily.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Students must be in 9th-12th grade
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Positive attitude, enthusiastic and outgoing
Self-motivated and strong work ethic
People-oriented with strong communication skills
Able to communication schedule and availability with Volunteer manager
and supervisor(s)
TIME COMMITMENTS:
Interns generally will work 2 M-F weeks during the summer and a few selected
events during the school year (subject to their availability). Students will never be
asked to work during school hours and rarely during the school week.
