Arraignment - Huron Municipal Court; Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 0830hrs.
Vehicle - 1999 GMC Envoy; Michigan - 3ENQ01 (hold on vehicle)
Dispatch received a 911 call from a female reporting that she was at Kalahari and was
attempting to kill her daughter.
Det. Sgt. Kotsopoulos, Det. Rieger and I responded and met with deputies on scene. Deputy
Harlow had Smith in the rear seat of his marked cruiser.
The female baby was located in the rear driver side of the listed vehicle. The baby was secured
in a child restraint. The baby appeared to be in good health and did not appear to be in
distress. The baby was transported to Fireland's Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
Det. Sgt. Kotospoulos and Det. Rieger transported Smith to the Erie County Sheriff's Office.
Det. Rieger and I spoke with Smith in a interview room.
During the course of the interview, Smith admitted to driving to Kalahari for the purpose of
suffocating her daughter and causing her death.
Erie County Prosecutor Kevin Baxter authorized the above listed charge.
Smith was incarcerated in the Erie County Jail with out incident. Smith was later served a copy
of the listed charge.
