aturn, the most malefic planet, can produce significant changes

both at the mundane and the individual levels when he enters a
sign, in relation to the natal Moon. Saturn entered Pisces on
15.2.1996 at 3.30 p.m. IST.1

Saturn is known to confer benefic results only in 3rd, the 6th, and the 11th
from the natal Moons sign. As also it is the Saturns slow passage
through a Zodiac sign for 2 1/2 years, and 30 years for entire zodiac, which
makes an individual feel the impact of its affect. Saturn makes three
rounds in the life of an individual.
Saturn is said to cause Sade-Sathi, when it transits the 12th, 1st, and 2nd
house reckoned from the natal Moon. Sade-Sath literally means Seven
and half in Devanagari, ancient language of Bharatakhanda (India). As
Saturns slow motion of 2 1/2 years in each zodiac sign and its total time
taken to pass through all the three signs constitutes seven and half years.
Normally, Sade-sathi is considered to be Bad or Worst period. It is a
Turbulent period, in which an individual experiences an high magnitude
of Ups and Downs. The impact is on the mind, as Moon represents mind.
The individual undergoes various unusual and unexpected experiences.
In other words, Sade-sathi is a sort of seasoning period, an analogy for
this can be made to:
Iron ore from the molten state eventually to become the final product, it
undergoes very many process such as forging, casting, filing, milling,
chiselling, and finally chromium plating. When all these process are
meticulous and precise in its process then we get to see a perfect and a
fine implement/ tool.
So, how each of this process undergoes time consuming procedure, from
one stage to another or on to another processing unit, similarly during
Sade-sati, an individual undergoes from one experience to another (most
of them unseen, unheard, or unexpected), which causes enormous mental
stress and strain. The native literally feels as though he is being
manipulated without choice.

Sade-sathi
A.

Phase1 (the beginning) when Saturn is located 12 th to moon

Sade-sathi is also called Brihat Kalyani in some texts. Saturn, when it

transits the 12th house to the natal Moon, it said that Sade-sathi begins.
The two dimensions (Positive & Negative) mentioned are the perspective
in which native approaches and feels the issues. The native undergoes
following experiences:
Series of events with two dimensions (Positive & Negative)
* change of place, position, profession
* starting a new life or new job, diving into a totally new arena
* auspicious ceremonies taking place, including Marriage
* series of problems in the form of mental-shocks, stress and strain
* forced decisions to be made without choice or a few choices
* mental and physical exhaustion
* ailments in the family
* depressing episodes, low self-esteem, and low vitality
* sleepless nights
* over expenditure

All these events appear weird, strange, sudden, unexpected, in a

significant magnitude.
B.

Phase 2 (the middle)when Saturn is located in the same

sign as natal moon.

When it transits the zodiac sign occupied by moon in the natal chart, it is
said to be in the second phase of Sade-sathi, supposedly traversing the
Heart of the body. The native undergoes:
* Emotional disturbances
* Heart breaking or breath taking events
* High degree of uncertainties
* Disappointments
* Forced decisions to be made without choice or a few choices
* Relationship building and breaking
* Separative tendencies from the near and dear ones

Unable to concentrate on any issue

Sleepless nights
Over expenditure
C.

Phase 3 (Last portion)When Saturn is located 2nd sign from

the Natal moon.

This is the last phase of transit with reference to Sade-sathi, when the
Saturn transits the 2nd zodiac sign reckoned from the natal Moon. The
native experiences:
* feeling of dis-associations from various bodies, agencies, communities
* wanders from place to place (Pillars to Post)
* transfers, promotions, displacements with rise
* with very many positive dimensions, the native never feels satisfied or
commonly placed in a situation of dilemma
compulsive actions and decisions for various issues
over expenditure
sleepless nights
Erratic decisions

3.

Ashtama Sani

Saturns passage through the 8th zodiac sign calculated from the natal
Moon is known as Ashtama Sani. Ashta means numeral Eight in Sanskrit.
The native experiences high degree of stress and turmoil, in work, home,
and all other field of activities. The native feels insecure and isolated. In
real life situations:
* young children feel being neglected, could be any reasons; like Parents
transferred in jobs; or overworking parents; separation of the parents;
Child is being sent to boarding school/college.
* youths feels dejected and may be disappointments in Love-life
*matured and middle aged people feeling of being cornered in their
professional scenario
* elderly and aged offcourse being ignored more than usual
Businessmen could end up in inadequate cash flow in business, more
borrowing situations, borrowers increase of demand for the payment,
debtors delay in payment etc., etc.
Politicians/Celebrities lose public image, downward trend mounts.
Professionals/Academician/Philanthropists could feel the saturation point
of their involvement in work and occupation. Generally any person under

going Ashtama Sani, the experience is demoralizing to an extent. To

overcome this becomes a challenging task.
4.

PANCHAMA Sani

The Saturn when transits the 5th zodiac sign from the natal Moon, then it
is said to be Panchama Sani. Pancha means numeral five in Sanskrit, for
example, Pancha Pandavas ( 5 Pandu emperors in Mahabharata epic,
Pancha Bhutas-5 elements Earth, Fire, Water, Metal, Aether).
The native experiences the separative tendencies in a family, losing of
peace and harmony, failure of decision making process appropriately.
5.

Ardhashtama Sani

This is when Saturn moves in 4th to natal Moon. Ardha means half,
Ashtama means eighth, so half of eighth house is 4th house. It is also
called as Kanta-Sani.
The native experiences the real effect of Saturn in terms of work,
occupation and profession. The native has to undergo very many
compromises in the field of activity in which he is involved He is made
humble. Low productivity, and unable to contribute the best in terms of
professional outcome. Wastage/Loss/Theft of the resources could be some
of the final outcome. Low returns for a high input.
6.

SAMASAPTHAMA Sani

This is period when Saturn transits the zodiac sign exactly opposite, that
is 180 to the natal Saturn. It is supposedly one of the challenging period
of time, in which native encounters most unexpected events. This is very
similar to Sade-sathi, but only difference is of larger magnitude, and
shorter the time. It is only for two and half years. When the natal chart is
strong then the outcome is bound to be good, and vice-versa. However,
no matter how good or bad is the natal horoscope, the suffering is
inevitable. Generally the native passes through the following
phenomenon:
* low self-esteem, demoralising periods
* losing of jobs-retrenchments, voluntary resignations, or being cornered

* depression to the extent that person has no drive or motivation to thrive,

survive, or exist
* separative tendencies
* unpalatable news
7.

Sceptic Dasa-Bhukti

Most important sceptical Dasa-Bhukti with reference to Saturn are

VENUS BHUKTI in SATURN DASA and, SATURN BHUKTI in
VENUS DASA. The effect is huge rise and fall. The fall not necessary a
downfall, but slippery period, where one tends to be tempted and be
allured by the fantasy of materialism. In other words, one has to be
careful with reinvestment's.
Generally, the outcome in this period are inversely proportion to the
strength of both the planets. Weaker the planets better is the benefic
results, and vice-versa.
8.

Conclusion

The Seven & half years of Sade-sathi has been presumed to be worst and
Bad period of transit, which certainly is not, though apparent feeling of
turbulent negative events account for large proportion. Sufferings and
untold miseries one experiences are nothing but they are lessons for us to
learn. It is generally very bad for the Aries, Cancer, Leo, and Scorpio
signs (ie., Moon in those zodiac signs in the natal chart). It is said to be
the Karmic retributions of ones past.
