DENSO EPOXY CTR

APPLICATION METHOD STATEMENT
INTRODUCTION

Denso Epoxy CTR is a non-carcinogenic, low volatile organic solvent based,

2-pack epoxy coating as an alternative to the currently used (but banned in
some countries) traditional carcinogenic epoxy coal tar products which also
have high solvent levels.

SURFACE
PREPARATION

All sharp edges must be rounded off and any weld spatter etc must be ground
off. Surfaces should be grit blasted to Swedish standard SA2.5 minimum for
longest service life. All traces of mill scale, oil and grease must be removed.
A water-based detergent should be used for washing away grease.

APPLICATION
PROCEDURE

Denso Epoxy CTR is supplied in pre-weighed containers, Part A (resin base)

and Part B (hardener), in the correct mixing ratio. After preparing the steel
substrate as given above, before adding Part B (the hardener), Part A (the
resin base) should be thoroughly mixed using an electric or air driven drill with
a mixing whip attachment. All the contents of Part B are then added to the
container Part A and mixed with the mechanical whip for 2 to 3 minutes. The
pot life of the mixture is 1 hour at 23C (or 30 minutes at 35C).
The first coat is applied using a brush or spray to a wet film thickness of 250
microns nominal (200 microns nominal dry film thickness). The wet film
thickness of the coating should be regularly checked during application using a
wet film gauge. The minimum time before application of the second coat is 2
hours at 23C.
In areas where exposure to sunlight is expected, then the UV colour stable
topcoat Denso Weathershield at 60 microns dry film thickness can be used if
required.

INSPECTION

The presence of pinholes and other defects in the coating should be checked
for using a Holiday detector, set at 2000V/mm. All defects must be repaired.

STORAGE

The containers should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated area. The containers

should be kept tightly sealed. The shelf life is 12 months.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Brush or spray under well ventilated conditions. Wear suitable protective

clothing and glasses. Read the material safety data sheet before handling the
containers.
