Lesson Plan - Prepositions

4th Grade, EFL (9-10 years old), 22-25 students per class, Public school. 4 x 45 minutes
lessons per week. Averagelow socio economic level, many students do not use English
outside of the classroom.
Most of the students are able to express themselves using the vocabulary that we have
learned until now. 2-3 students are weak with profound skills problems in their L1 as well,
and receive individual assistance. Most of the students are truly engaged to English learning
using activities; they present ongoing progress in all 4 skills.

Preposition Lesson We have already learned and discussed Preposition last year and we
have used the preposition with many subjects like the text book unit " Around town" and
" animal world" , but in this class I am going to be very specific and focus on preposition
training drills, to make sure the issue is "polished" and that the preposition are used
correctly and in context , or as I am plan to call it " My where lesson", offering them a guided
reminder of the correct use of preposition.
My lesson objectives: By the end of the lesson students will be able to read & write
independently at least 3 sentences using correctly 3-4 of the 7 prepositions: In , On, Under,
In front of, Behind, Next to, between, In the form os "Where is the ________" ?
" The ______ is _______ the ________".

MATERIALS and SOURCES to Prepare:

My "Where Box" Just a plain medium size carton box, I printed the preposition on A4 and
used simple glue to attach the preposition to the box, In Inside, On and under up and
down and Next to and behind on both sides.
Max - The puppet - I will use Max to present the prepositions. Max should be in the box
when I enter the class (Before the lesson). We can use any toy, Puppet, Plastic Toy, realia's
or authentic material that you feel the children can relate too.
I have also prepared the pictures I have attached below (Check the end of the PDF) With
pictures like: Family in front of the house, ball between boxes, a cat under a chair all from
Google, and wrote question like : Where is the Family ?
I have also found and printed the following worksheet http://busyteacher.org/21262-basicprepositions.html

And I found this sweet song on Youtube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx8i-Wq_jtc

I am planning to use books, pens, my teacher's desk and table, and the student's coats and
umbrellas for demonstration and practice.

Reflection:
Before I planned this lesson , I read many articles about "how to teach preposition" so I
guess I was brainstorming with myself, finding a the right way for me. . as I teach
elementary school and "in my element" when it comes to the younger grades. I knew I
wanted something stimulating and "fun". I also knew we have a fun to learn philosophy
when it comes to teaching student engagement being the key for us. During the
preparation I know that I wanted to use an activity which was "Max" based. I thought that
the focus should be on the something they remember from last year. From there the way
was like a "surprise" show, using Max , In on under the box and also use all piece of
material I will be able to use in class, and most of all, let them practice the usage many times
during the lesson. It takes time and practice to get "beat" of the lesson, the slow and fast
rhythm changes you need to make to run this lesson in an efficient way, you have to
remember this is a fun lesson but not to over stimulate them to death.

Look down for the pictures:
