APPOINTMENT TO THE TANZANIA COMMUNICATIONS REGULATORY


AUTHORITY CONSUMER CONSULTATIVE (TCRA-CCC) COUNCIL MEMBERS
1. Background
The current members of the TCRA Consumer Consultative Council (TCRA CCC) were appointed on 14th February, 2012 for a
period of three (3) years; hence their office term will end on 13th February, 2015 in accordance with Section 37(3) of the TCRA
Act of 2003.
In pursuance of provision of Section 37 (4) of the TCRA Act of 2003, the Minister of Communication, Science and Technology,
who is the Minister responsible for Communications, invites nomination for appointment to TCRA Consumer Consultative
Council. The Council is established under Section 37 of the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority Act, of 2003.
2. Responsibilities
The Council shall have powers and perform the following functions, namely:
(a) To represent the interest of consumers by making submissions to, providing views and information to and consulting
with the Authority, Minister and sector Ministers;
(b) To receive and disseminate information and views on matters of interest to consumers of regulated goods and services;
(c) To establish local, regional and sector consumer committees and consult with them;
(d) To consult with industry, government and other consumer groups on matters of interest to consumers of regulated
goods and services.
3. Qualifications Required
As per Section 37 (2), candidates nominated should be representatives of consumers including the business community or
organizations legally recognized as representatives of the private sector interest.
Accordingly, Section 37 (5) of the TCRA Act of 2003, provide that nomination of persons for membership of the Council regards
shall be to the desirability of the Council as a group ought to have knowledge, experience and understanding of the interests of
Consumers and that of the regulated services, including the interest of:
(a) Low income and disadvantaged persons
(b)Industrial and business users
(c)Government and Community Organizations
4. Other Information
Nominating entities should therefore take into account the requirements listed herein above in exercise of rights accorded to
them under the law.
5. Mode of Application
5.1 Nominations for the TCRA Consumer Consultative Council should be made in writing and should include the name of the
organization, name of the nominated person and name of the person making nomination; enclosing detailed Curriculum
Vitae (CV) and certified copies of relevant certificates.
5.2 The CV should include names, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mails of three references including the sponsoring
entity.
5.3 The envelope should be marked on top: "NOMINATION TO TCRA CCC COUNCIL MEMBERS'. It should be noted that
before short-listing of suitable candidates, the general public will be invited through the press to comment on their suitability.
5.4 Applicants who applied in the previous advert but DID NOT submit reference letters from the Business Community or
Organizations legally recognized as representatives of private sector are required to do so and re-submit their applications.
6. Deadline for Submission
Nominations should reach the undersigned within three weeks from the date of the first appearance of this publication.
