Theory of Knowledge/IB Extended Essay Research Guide

Use this Research Guide to assist you as you develop and draft your extended essay. The links included
are accessible via any device with a web browser app.
CCHS Library Media Center Reference Resources
1.) Follett WebPath Express (WPE): In the LMC online catalog, click the WPE tab on the left side of
the screen, enter the authors name and click Search.
a. Offers many good articles to go to via hyperlinks to start the research process.
b. A yellow Post-It note in the upper right corner of each entry shown indicates the
reading level of the article (Grades 6-8 or 9-12).

2.) Britannica Online: Online encyclopedia featuring articles, images, and links to other articles and
information on a wealth of topics, backed by Britannicas solid reputation.

3.) InfoTrac Databases (accessible via the CCHS LMC webpage):
a. Go to

b. Select the InfoTrac link on the right-hand side, under Resources. PW = schools
c. Expanded AcademicASAP database links to academic journal articles. This is a solid
starting point for database articles, and compares to JSTOR and other databases.
d. Other databases are listed here by subject area. All are accessed by entering a subject in
the Search bar.
4.) Gale Virtual Reference Library (accessible via the CCHS LMC webpage):
a. Go to

b. Select Gale Virtual Reference Library link on the right-hand side, under Resources.
PW = infopower
c. The e-books here count as print sources, and are set up exactly as if they were the print
edition. Organized alphabetically by subject, then by title.
5.) LFCC Library & Handley Regional Library (HRL) Resources: Access these great online resources &
databases is granted to those with a valid LFCC Student ID or HRL library card.

6.) Print Resources:
a. The Reference Section has a solid offering of reference materials, searchable in the LMC
catalog.
b. Regular nonfiction has a 2-week checkout. Reference materials have a 1-week checkout.
Writing and Citation Resources
These sites offer assistance in writing and citation for a particular style (MLA, APA, Chicago, Turabian).
1. Britannica Online offers assistance with every article on how to properly cite it.
2. EasyBib (http://www.easybib.com/) : This FREE website offers great help in formatting your
citations for the major formats expected:.
3. Citation Machine (http://www.citationmachine.net/) : Another FREE citation site.
4. Purdue Online Writing Lab (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/) : A great FREE website that offers a
wealth of writing tips and assistance for any assignment you have.
