Release 5: Revision 4
Executive
The SACS Executive program has been designed to provide the user with an easy to use
and efficient front end utility for the SACS system. It controls and connects all elements
of the SACS system by providing access to all SACS interactive programs, utilities and
system settings. The Executive also provides access to run file program module execution
in addition to user defined program utilities.
The SACS Executive program may be used to control the entire SACS system. The user
may execute any SACS program or utility in addition to system utilities directly from the
SACS Executive.
The following are some of the features available in the SACS Executive program:
1. Ability to launch any SACS interactive graphics program.
2. Create run or execution file for SACS run file program modules.
3. Determines input files required for analysis execution and prompts for each input
file or can determine required file automatically.
4. Ability to determine SACS output options automatically for run file executions.
5. Includes extended power buttons for the most common tasks on the main screen.
6. Provides command line help when the mouse passes over any power button.
7. Allows access to all SACS system and Executive settings.
8. Allows user specification of file editor and browser to be used by the Executive.
9. Ability to execute any run file or executable file with out leaving the Executive.
10. Complete on-line help facility.

The status bar at the bottom of the screen shows the project, task, file naming convention,
file identifier, and default data file directory of the data files. Any of these items may be
changed by clicking directly on these areas on the status bar.
The Icon Bar contains icons for the SACS interactive programs and other commonly used
features of the SACS system. It is divided into separate tabs containing icons relating to
certain topics. The Interactive bar contains all interactive programs, the Analysis bar
contains icons pertaining to running an analysis, and the Key Utilities bar contains all key
related icons.

This option causes a WAV file to played in a loop as long as an Analysis is begin
executed. This is used to alert the user that there is activity regarding the executing
analysis as well as alert him when it is completed.
When creating a execution run file, the output listing generated by all of the program
modules executed will be put in the same file if this box is checked. Otherwise, each
program module executed will create a separate output listing file.
The

startup of the Executive. With checkbox deselected, a blank worksheet will be loaded on
startup.
The Show file names on worksheet checkbox will display the names, as well as, the paths
of the input and output files used whenever a SACS analysis is executed.
The Execution Option on the Execute Tab tells SACS where to run an analysis. An
analysis can be run on your local machine as well as on a Remote server machine.
Remote execution allows you to assemble the analysis as you normally would. The SACS
System then transfers all pertinent input files to the server machine in the directory
specified by the dedicated analysis directory and initiates a remote execution. When the
analysis is complete, the output files are transferred back to your local machine as though
you ran the analysis locally.

Files used for a project task are registered to the project file registry so that they may be
accessed automatically by the Executive. All registered files appear in the

The SACS System allows the user to organize data into projects. The project facility

For example, if soil data is required by the system and a minor task is active, the system
will first check for a file registered to that minor task. If no soil file is found, then the
sub-task to which the minor task belongs is checked. If a soil file is still not found, the
main task is then checked followed by the project if required.

By default a directory name that is entered in the Sub-directory field will be created

The project file registry contains information such as filename, location, file type,
program and task ownership for each of the files used in the project. Whenever a file is
created by an interactive program module, used in the generation of a run file or is
created by an analysis execution, it is registered to the project registry with the current

The project directory typically contains all of the data files, run files and results of the
project. This data may be organized into tasks which are typically in subdirectories under
the project directory. The project information for the projects files including filename,
usage, owner and description as well as information for all of the tasks including task
name, description, sub directory and file identifier are stored in the project directory.
Therefore, when the project directory is copied along with the sub-directories, all of the
project information is copied as well.
In order to copy a project to another directory of to another machine, simply copy the
project directory to the desired destination directory. Then create a new project using the
menu item under the
main menu. Specify the destination
directory as the project location along with the appropriate description. When this new
project is activated, all project tasks and project data files should then be available.
The sample project named <SACS Samples> is included on the installation CD and can
be optionally imported as part of the SACS system installation. This sample project
contains numerous tasks and sub-tasks that allow the user to follow the sample project.
