DESCRIPTIO N AND OPER AT ION OF THE "MOBYMATIC" VA RIATOR

DESCR IPTION:

But t he Mobymati c pr imary drive i s s pec i a l. The drive pulley locked on
the engine is a s pe cia l collaps ible one. whose che ek spacing is variable
under t he i nfl uence Of centrHu~ally moved balls pushin~ on t he chee k
side wh i ch is opposite the belt. As t he cheeks spread apart or close in ,
the wi ndi ng diameter of the V-belt varies, and this in t urn modi fies the
reduct ion ra ti o f rom 18. 7: 1 to 11.8 : 1. The engine t i lts around its uppe r
attachmen t axi s . A s pr i ng tends to push t he eng ine fo .....ar d. thu s ensuri ng bel t t ension .

OPERATION:
On s ta rti ng, .tlle engine revo lves s l owl y as soon as it engages . The springs
Whi ch push the engine fOn/ard compel the belt to rest on t he sma lles t drlvepulley diameter . The reduction ratio is at its hi ghe s t , we are i n l ow gear.
As soon as engine s peed increases, the balls push t he movable cheek, txus dec reasi ng the reduct ion ratio. which means that for a gi ven e ngin e .r pm, the
speed of the machine is i ncreas ed. If the Mobyl ette is on a fl at road, the
be lt goes on i ncr eni ng to la r~er and larger drive pull ey diame ters until top
speed is reached . If t he Mobyl ette enqaces an up-grade . t he speed of both
