DESCRIPTION OF WORK PROCEDURES

1.

Pre-Construction

The main layer license shall be submitted to the Consultant

2.

Pipeline Alignment

The pipeline alignment shall be pegged out on the site with wooden stakes at 25m maximum by a licensed surveyor based on the
contract documents. Location of chambers, valves, tapping points, tee-off points, change in pipe diameter, etc. shall all be identified
clearly

When conducting setting out, the survey team should be identify any possible obstacles that would effect main laying works such as
existing utilities, culverts, crossings, geotextile, etc and compare them with that shown in the drawings. Any discrepancies between
contract documents and site conditions shall be raised as soon as possible.

Consultant and relevant Authorities shall be invited to verify the pipeline alignment and location of the chambers, etc. immediately upon
completion of the survey
Site clearing shall be conducted along the pipe alignment and to the limits of the pipe trench only. No unnecessary clearing shall be
conducted. Care shall be taken out to disturb the alignment pegging stakes.
Before any materials are ordered, the catalogues of the necessary pipe, fittings and specials shall be submitted to the Consultant for their
approval. All pipes, fittings and specials shall comply fully with the contract document and general specification.
The ordered material shall be made available for the consultants/authorities checking at the storage yard or site at any reasonable time.
Delivery of material shall be carried out carefully and in strict accordance with the manufacturers recommendation and general
specification to ensure that no damages arises from the transit and handling.

Handling and Delivery of

Material

Trenching

All pipes, fittings, etc are to be hoisted and place down carefully in accordance with manufacturers recommendation and shall not be
rolled off from the delivery vehicles or dragged along the ground.

Any damages to the pipes, valves, fittings, etc. due to improper handling or storage shall be made good to the complete satisfaction of the
Consultant or Authorities.
No excavation shall be carried out until the alignment has been approved and verified. Excavation shall then be carried out accurately and
carefully over alignment and to the correct depth all in accordance with the contract document and general specification.

Unless otherwise specified the pipe trench shall be 200mm wider on either side of the pipes outer diameter. The sides of the trenches
shall be cut vertical and where necessary shall be protected against collapse by timber shoring.

Care shall be made ensure safety at all times during trenching operation.

Any known utilities or obstructions should be clearly marked out so as to avoid accidental damages. Care shall also be made to avoid
damage to existing infrastructure such as damaged road due to the operation of heavy machinery such as excavators, etc. on them.

Provision of wooden planks for the tracks.

Pipe Jointing

The pipe trench shall be inspected before the pipe is laid inside.
Approved pipes shall be delivered along the pipeline alignment and shall be jointed as follows:

HDPE Pipes

HDPE pipes may be jointed above ground using approved fully automated butt fusion machine. The HDPE pipe shall be prepared and
jointed in full accordance with the General Specification.

Copies of print-out from the jointing machine shall be compiled and submitted to the Consultant and Authorities in the Monthly Progress
Report. The original print-outs shall be handed over to the Authority as part of the pipelines handing over documentation.

Ductile Iron Pipes

Ductile iron pipes shall be joint using the flange or socket method. All joint shall be carried out in accordance with the general specification
and manufacturers recommendations.

Socket jointing shall be carried out carefully with the spigot pipe pushed into the socket fitting up to the correct depth.

For flange joints, checks shall be made firstly that the bolts, nuts and washers for the joint shall comply with the Contract Document.

Steel Pipe

Pipeline Testing

Steel pipe shall be jointed by welding. Welding rods and welding set shall be of the approved type and shall comply with the contract
document. Welders proficiency in the form of certificates should be submitted.
Testing of pipe shall be carried out in strict accordance with the contract and general specification. Generally two types of testing shall be
carried out sectional testing and system testing. Section of pipes to be tested shall be identified and confirmed together with the
consultants before testing. Sectional testing may be omitted if the pipeline is shorter then 1000m. However, written consent from
consultant and authorities shall be obtained for such omission.

Before each test is conducted, consultant and authorities shall be invited to inspect the pipeline, testing machine, etc. The required
working pressure and test pressure shall also be confirmed with the consultant and authority.

Testing of pipe may be carried out when the pipe is still outside the trench.

Once testing is conducted successfully, the pipe trench maybe backfilled properly. Backfilling of the trench shall be carried out in

Handing Over

Location of chambers and fittings shall be identified during the alignment setting out. Construction of the chambers shall be carried out in
strict accordance with the contract document and general specification. All piling works shall be recorded in the appropriate forms. For
large chambers where the reinforced concrete is used, inspection of reinforcement bars, concrete cubes, etc shall be carried out.
Otherwise concrete testing shall only be carried out upon request.
Flushing of pipeline shall only be conducted upon approval by the consultants and authorities. Unless otherwise allowed by the
authorities, flushing shall only be carried out with the presence of Authorities, flushing will be conducted until the water in the pipe runs
clear and free of floating particles
Chlorination shall be carried out in accordance with the contract document and general specification.

The pipeline shall be inspected and the locations for chemical feeding and flushing shall be identified and agreement obtained from the
consultants/authorities.

The chlorination solution shall then be pumped into the feed water by a pressure pump and the feed water allowed to flow into the pipeline
from one end until chorine solution is detected flowing steadily form the exit at the end of the pipeline. The chorine solution should be at
least 20ppm.

The inlet and exit are then closed and the solution maintained inside the pipe for 24hours. Chlorination is considered successful if water
samples obtained from the pipe at the end of the 24 hours period show a residual chlorine level of at least 0.2ppm.

Upon completion of the chlorination process, samples shall be carefully obtained to carry out bacteriological test at a private laboratory.
The result of the test shall be submitted to the authorities. If bacteriological test should fail, the chlorination process shall be repeated.
Upon the successful completion of the pipeline, it shall be handed over to the authorities using the appropriate handing over forms.

Handing over shall be followed with the submission of as-built drawings, complete testing records and pipe joint records.
