Thought for the Week

The authority of Christ over evil
It is beautiful to begin todays liturgy with the opening prayer:
Grant us, Lord our God,
That we may honour you with all our mind,
And love everyone in truth of heart.
The mantra in the book of Deuteronomy 6:5 enjoin us to love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. The invitation to
love expresses itself in the love of others and I sometimes wonder if it is possible for us
to love as God expect us to. While this call might be a vocation to celibate life, it can
also be realized within the sacred institution of married life. And today, Jesus gives us
the authority to love our neighbours by confronting the evil that sets prejudices in our
hearts, the evil that divide us.

Music
Looking to the future, is there anyone who has
keyboard (piano/organ) skills would be
interested in helping with music in the liturgy
especially on Sundays? Perhaps also we could
think about establishing a choir so that we
could begin singing other parts of the Mass,
such as the Responsorial Psalm, Gloria, and
plan some extra music for Holy Week

More News
From Paul to the Benedictines:
Greetings to you all and many thanks for your prayers and good wishes.
Well, the week has flown by, marked mainly by my daily visits to the local surgery
for my wound dressing (the healing of which is progressing nicely) and enjoyment
of the occasional wonder of slurries of snowfall - nice to watch from behind glass,
more problematic if you have to negotiate it on foot or in the car! I do manage to
do a bit of driving - to the surgery or the shops occasionally. I even made a trip to
Birmingham earlier in the week. A bit exhausting, but an indication of progress!
I have a bit of a habit of wondering in the corridors in the late evening. On several
occasions, I have caused night staff here to jump out of their skin if I came out of
the darkness or came unexpectedly around a corner. I feel as though I should carry a
little bell like the lepers in Israel in Jesus' time. My effect on them is a bit
disconcerting - to me as to them! All other residents are usually tucked up by then,
so the staff forget that I might be on the loose!
I pray for you all. Looking forward to being back at St Benedict's probably in a
couple of weeks.
God bless,
Fr Paul.
Unused Rosaries: Do you have unused rosaries tucked away in the
cupboard or drawer, we are collecting rosaries to send out to various
missions around the world, this appeal is being made by The Catenians
who have so far sent out 135,000 rosaries. It would be good if we could
give this initiative our support, spare rosaries can be given to Fr. Paul or
Brian Ingram.
