andMacOSXandareoflittlehelp.Mylaptophasbeenthroughmanyroundsof
partitioning,formatting,installingusingvariousOSx86versionbeforeIfinallyget
MacLeopardtoworkperfectly,alongsidewithUbuntuGutsy(Yes,youhearme
rightitworksperfectly,eventheairport,soundcardandgraphics).TheOSX86
patchedreleasethatIamusingisiATKOS

1.Backupyourdata,especiallythe/boot/grubfolder.(Resizingyourharddiskcancausedataloss.Pleasebackupalldatabefore

2.GotoyourBIOS(checkoutyoursystemusermanualforthebuttontoaccessyourBIOSduringbootup).Changethefirstboot
devicetoyourDVDROMDrive.
3.InserttheUbuntuLiveCDintotheDVDROMandrebootthePC.
4.BootintoUbuntu(SelectStartorInstallUbuntuinthebootupscreenandwaitforittofinishloading)
5.OpenSystem>Administration>PartitionEditor.
6.SelectthepartitionthatisinstalledwithUbuntuGutsy.ClickResize/Move.
7.Enterthenewfilesize.(iATKOSneedsaminimumof5GBforinstallation,somakesurethatyouhaveatleast5GBoffreespace
afterresizing).ClickOK
8.BacktotheGPartedscreen,youshouldnowseeapartitionoffreespacethatisunallocated.ClickonitandselectNew.Allocate
alltheavailablespaceandformatasFAT32.(DonotselectanyotherformatexceptFAT32).
9.Onceyouaredonewiththeconfiguration,clickApplytofinalizechanges.Youshouldnowhaveaext3partitionthatcontains
yourGutsyandaFAT32partition.(Youshouldalsoseeaswappartition.Donttouchthat.ItisnecessaryforGutsytorun.)
10.ExitGPartedandrestartthePC.
InstallingMacOSX
11.ThePCwillejecttheLiveCD.RemovetheLiveCDandreplacewiththeiATKOSDVD.PressENTERtorebootthePC.

12.Youshouldnowseeadarwinloadscreen.WhenitpromptedyoutoinstallMacOSX,pressENTER.
13.Wait.Aftersometime,ifnothinggoeswrong,youshouldseetheLeopardinstallationscreenwitharedapple.
14.Pressthe>onthescreen
15.Inthenextscreen,gotoUtilities>Diskutility
16.Ontheleftsideofthewindow,youshouldseethevariouspartitionsallgreyedout.
17.SelectthepartitionwiththeFAT32format.ClickonEraseontherighthandside,andundertheformatoptionsselectMACOSX
JournaledExtendedandclickErase.ThiswillformattheFAT32partitiontoHFSformat.Oncethediskiserasedandformatted,you
canseethatthepartitionisnowactive(inbold)onthelefthandsidewhilerestofthepartitionsarestillgreyedout.
18.ExittheDiskutility.Thiswillbringyoubacktotheinstallationscreen.ClickAgreeandcontinue.
19.Inthenextscreen,youneedtoselectthepartitionforinstallation.Itshouldonlyshowonepartition(theoneweformattedjust
now).SelectthatandclickOK.
20.Sitbackastheinstallationgoesonforsome2030minsbasedonyourRAM.(Note:Dontclickoncustomizeandselect
unnecessarypatches,driversetc,Theplaininstallwilldo.)
FirstLogintoMacOSX
21.Oncetheinstallationfinishes,restartthePCwithoutremovingtheinstallerDVD.YouneedittobootintoMacOSX.

22.WhenthePCrestarts,dontclickanything,evenwhenyouarepromptedtoinstallMac.Afterawhile,youshouldseethegrey
applescreenandthenthebeautifulMACOSstartupscreenwithwelcomemessage.
23.Followthroughtheseriesofstepstosetupyouraccount.Oncefinished,youshouldhaveafunctionalMACLeopardinyour
desktop.Dependingonyourhardware,thesoundcardandairportmight/mightnotwork.Mysoundcardandairportworkrightoutof
thebox.
Configurethebootoption
NowthatyourMacOSXinstallationiscompleted,weneedtoconfigurethebootsothatyoudonthavetobootfromtheinstallerdisk
everytime.
24.RemovetheDVDfromthedriveandrestartthePC.
25.BootbacktoyourUbuntu.YoushouldhavenoprobleminbootingbacktoGutsy.(IfGutsycantbootduetocorruptioninthe
grubbootloader,rebootfromtheLiveCDandrestorethe/boot/grubfolderfromyourbackup.)
26.InyourGutsyhomefolder,extractthepc_efi_v80.tar.bz2
27.Intheextractedfolder,copyboot_v8to/bootfolder(requireadministratoraccess).Interminal,
sudocp/pc_efi_v80/boot_v8/boot
28.Openthemenu.lstin/boot/grubfolder.Interminal,

Thanksforpublishingthisguide.ImcurrentlygettingstuckaterasingmydiskAfterIsetupa40gbFAT32partitionwith
gParted,IbootupintoMacOSInstall.Afterpressing>IgotoDiskUtilities,selecttheMSDOSFAT32volume,setthe
formattoMacOSXExtended(Journaled)andpresserase.Theutilitygoesthroughpreparingtoeraseandthenjust
returnshavingdonenothing.Ihavetriedaddingthezerooutdriveoptionanditgetstocreatingbutfreezesinthe
middle.

forMacwithHFS+thenanother30GbpartitionofHFSandthen60GbofExt2partitionandthen5GbofLinuxSwap
Partition.Isthatalrightforinstallationifnothenpleasetellmewhatdousuggest.
MyInstallationforMacisnotworkingfirstlyIhaverebootedthe2ndtimeafterinstallationandnoscreenforcreatinguser

whenitstartstoboot(itshowsfirstbootmessages,asktowaitsomeseconds)andwhenitstarts,itkeepsrebooting.
IonlyworkswhentheiatkosDVDisinthedrive.Doesanyoneknowswhatisthisproblem?

installedOSX,IgotanError21inGrubonreboot.AllIhadtodowashitetoedittheUbuntubootlineinGrub,and
changeittohd0,1fromhd0,3,andthenhitbtobootfromit.OnceIwasinUbuntu,Ieditedthe/boot/grub/menu.lstfile,
andreplacedhd0,3withhd0,1andIwasbackin.Thentherestofyouinstructionsworkedperfectly.Thankssomuch!

pc_efi_v80.tar.bz2has209567bytes,ifanyoneiswondering.
Thishowtoworkedperfectlyforme!unfortunellymylaptop(MSIMS163A,notwind)wasnt100%compatibleboth
network(somekindofgigabitethernet)andwifi(seemstobeanintel3945)cardsarenotworking.Imtryingtoresolve
theissue,butImafraiditmightnotbesosimple,orevenpossibleyet.AirPortisntevenvisible,whileEthernetisthere,
butitjustdoesntwork.
IdidntneedtobootmacoswithmykalywayDVD,whichcamereadyforAMD(althoughIgotintel)andMacOSX10.5.2,
soIjustskipedthatstepandwentdirectlytothesimpleconfigurationofEFIongrubboot.
AfterthatIgotintomacOSandcouldsee(almost)everythingworkingnice.Badluckforme,Isuppose.:P
