What Do the Knights of Columbus Do?

What do the Knights of Columbus do? That is a question that I have heard many answers to. I have heard
that they have great pancake breakfasts, they have meetings, they volunteer, and, oh yeah, for years they
ran bingos. Over the years I have learned that I can answer that question with one simple statement. What
do the Knights do? We stand up. It is that simple
We stand up for the rights of the unborn child through the support of Pro-life and are the only
organization that insures an unborn child at no expense to a member.
We stand up for the widows of our members.
We stand up for our members with one of the best insurance programs in the world offered only to
members and their families.
We stand up for the Children:
- Our Coats for Kids program was established to ensure that children in need of a winter coat can
receive one without cost to the family
- Our Youth Camp located at Blackstrap allows that all children can have the summer camp
experience, regardless of ability to pay.
- Our Indoor Games (celebrating its 50th anniversary this year) allows kids to participate in an
athletic event that brings elementary students together with world and Olympic class athletes.
- Our Farm School allows high school students a final chance at education.
- Our local schools are given support whenever needed.
We stand up for the needy through Habitat for Humanity building homes, Food Banks, homeless
shelters and the Friendship Centre.
We stand up for our clergy.
We stand up and encourage young men to consider Gods call to service in the priesthood. Under
the motto Keep the Faith Alive, the order has a number of programs based on prayer and designed to
reach the hearts and minds of young people while providing financial support during their years of
seminary training or religious formation.
We support the local Lay Formation program offered in the Diocese.
We come forward whenever asked to serve in ministries from Eucharistic to choir,
When you see Pope Francis on television celebrating mass from Rome, keep in mind that all telecasts
to North America from the Vatican are 100% funded by the Knights of Columbus.
In short, We stand up for our Faith.
Years ago when I was asked to join the Knights of Columbus, I too had the same answers as many other
men who have been asked. I have kids and they take up all my time or I already volunteer and dont
have any more time. Since then I have learned that it is up to me and my brother Knights to stand up. My
question to you is will you stand up with us? We ask no more then what you can do. In most cases, you are
already doing what we ask of you. The question is will you stand up with us? If you have any questions
or would like more information, please contact me. I would be happy to meet with you.
