Your photos
everywhere
The iPhone is a perfect device for
taking brilliant photographs wherever
you go and with the new iCloud Photo
Library, all of your images will instantly be
uploaded to the cloud so you can access them
wherever you are in the world.
Every photo and video you take will be
automatically added to your iCloud, so you can
access your entire library from any device, any
time you like. Youll need to activate iCloud on
your iPhone for your snaps to be saved, but
once they are you can also sign in on your other
devices, such as an iPad and a Mac, and have all
your photos at your fingertips. This will also save
space on your iPhone: the system will upload the
high-resolution version of all your snaps, saving a
smaller copy on your device thats perfect for the
screen size. No more deleting photos just to save
precious storage space!
Of course, the uploads will also maintain all of
your organisation, so you can see your photos
from years ago sorted by date, or quickly see
which shots youve marked as your favourites.

Send videos via Messages
The Messages
app has also seen
an update with
iOS8. The app, which always
allowed you to send free
messages (including photos
and videos) over Wi-Fi, has
been given an overhaul to
make things much easier.
First off, the process
of choosing a photo to
send to a friend has been
streamlined. Tap the camera
icon beside the message area
and a pop-up will appear.
Instead of having to tap three
or four times to attach a
photo, your recent shots will
appear in the menu itself, so
you can easily tap one to add
it to the message.
Alternatively, tap and
hold on the camera icon
and the camera will open,
ready for a selfie straight
away. You can slide your thumb up to take a quick photo of yourself, or
slide right to start recording a video. Whichever you choose, it can be
sent with a swipe up its a much quicker system than before. Finally,
Apple has added voice messaging via text: you can tap and hold on the
microphone icon to record a short message, then swipe it up to send.

Powered-up search
Spotlight activated by swiping down from the middle
of the home screen has always been a great way of
finding the content on your device quickly and easily.
Whether you wanted to quickly open an app, phone a friend or
listen to a song, its been the first port of call for many users. In
iOS8 it possesses some powerful new options that take it beyond
just your iPhone.
Searches will now also bring up results from the web, so you
can quickly look for a Wikipedia article, a movie that is currently
showing at the cinema, or a location such as a restaurant. Tap these
and you will be taken to the relevant app, to see your search online,
or in the Maps app. You can look up apps, music and books from
the iTunes and App Stores, too, then download the thing youre
looking for with a tap. If youve never used Spotlight before, now is
the time to start.

Get help from Siri
more efficiently
Siri, your iOS devices personal
assistant, has been developed and
enhanced further in iOS 8. The
most apparent upgrade is in the new Hey Siri
feature. You will need to activate this feature
in Settings (go to Settings>General>Siri)
but once done you will be able to activate
Siri simply by picking your device up and
speaking Hey Siri (there is no need to press
the Home button as before).
The result is a much more natural and
fluid process of asking Siri specific questions,
which it excels at, or asking it to perform key
functions on your device without you having
to lift a finger. For example, you can ask Siri to
send a message, update your Facebook status
and even look up the birthdate of a particular
person and the more you use it, the better
Siri gets at listening to and meeting your
demands. Apple is also working closely with
car manufacturers so that you will be able to
ask things of Siri on the move without having
to take your eyes off the road.

All-new apps
For a long time now, as well as creating the built-in
iPhone apps, Apple has developed other apps and
added them to the App Store for users to download.
Powerful yet easy-to-use apps like iPhoto and Pages are often
near the top of the bestsellers chart, and with good reason:
Apple builds the iPhone and makes the iOS operating system,
so its apps are brilliantly designed to work well alongside all the
features of the system.
And, with the arrival of iOS 8, two of those formerly
downloadable first-party apps are now included as part of the
operating system by default. iBooks is, as the name suggests,
designed to be the best way to read on your iOS device. You
can buy millions of books through the iBooks Store and use the
app to read them on your touch-screen. Plus, the books will
sync to other devices instantly.
The second new app to now be built into the system is
Podcasts. It, too, is pretty self-explanatory, but with an easy-touse interface and access to all your favourite podcasts through
the iTunes Store. The two apps are added to your iPhone
automatically when you update to iOS 8, so its just a case of
opening them and getting started.
Syncing made
simple
One of the most useful new
features of iOS 8 is Handoff. Its a
new feature that links together Macs
and iOS devices more closely. For the first time,
those that own a Mac and iPad along with
their iPhone will be able to work with all three
of them unlike ever before.
Handoff helps each device communicate
with each other in real time. So if youre writing
an email and get back to your desk, you can
fire up your Mac and an icon will appear in the
Dock. Click the icon and the Mail app will open
with the same message displayed, so you can
finish it off immediately. The system works for
all kinds of apps, but best of all it works both
ways. If youre working on your Mac and have
to leave, you can swipe up on your lock screen
and the same app you were using will open
on your iPhone. All you need to do to access
these features is log in with the same Apple ID
and youre good to go.

1: Navigate the Settings menu
Consider the Settings menu as a one-stop shop for changing anything and
everything that goes into the running of the iPhone and its apps. It can be
accessed from the home screen and holds all of the possible options and
choices for all its native apps, plus any third-party ones youve downloaded.
Navigating the Settings menu is fairly straightforward as the apps and
groups of settings appear in a long list. A lot of the time you will see an
arrow pointing to the right; this leads to more choices, ready for you to
select. Similar native apps or groups of settings are sensibly clustered
together in various sections, to ease accessibility. So, for example:
connectivity (Wi-Fi, Airplane mode, Bluetooth), productivity (Notes,
Reminders, Maps, etc), entertainment and creativity (iTunes, Videos, Photos,
Game Center, etc), social networks (Twitter, Facebook, etc) and finally any
other third-party apps.

and, in the To field, start typing the recipients name. When their name
pops up on Messages list of suggestions, tap it. Alternatively, you can tap
the + button to the right of the recipients field and choose a name from
the list of contacts.
Once the correct name is in the To field, tap the box next to the camera
icon and start typing your message in the box labelled iMessage. When
youre done, tap Send. The message will be sent. When the recipient reads
it, if they have read receipts turned on, a stamp will appear underneath the
speech bubble with your message in it, telling you when it was read.
iMessages, sent from other Apple devices, are blue, while SMS messages
will appear green. Your friends reply will appear in a grey speech bubble on
the left of the screen.

You can make FaceTime calls to anyone with a supported iOS device; these
are iPhone 4 or later, iPad 2 or later, iPad mini, or iPod touch 4th generation

How Health monitors your wellbeing
1: Benefit from different apps being compatible
The Health app needs lots of input in order
to work to its full potential. To aid this, Apple
unveiled software called Healthkit which
allows third-party developers to produce
apps to work in tandem with it. Apps such
as MyFitnessPal and Carrot Fit, for example,
support integration. This means Health isnt
stepping on anyones toes and, with more
developers looking to produce wellbeing
apps, innovation will flourish. The benefit is
that users can choose the apps which best
suit them and have all of the information sent
to a central hub. Check out the apps seeking
permission by looking under Sources.

Get apps for anything
1: Search for apps in the App Store
The App Store on your iPhone is incredibly easy to navigate. Its interface
is broken up into different categories and subcategories, much the same
way that the iTunes Store is. From the App Stores Featured screen, you can
flick through the top picks and newest releases at the top of the window.
Below this you will find a collection of different subcategories such as new
apps, popular categories and editors choices. At the bottom of the Featured
section you can access quick links, which will take you to some of the most
popular sections of the store. Use the top menu bar to refine your search by
app type, such as Games, Newsstand and more. Press and swipe on a line
of apps in the subcategory section of the Featured section to display more
apps, or tap See All to reveal all apps based in that category. You can then
order the presented apps by name, release date and popularity. To find out

app as a gift
A lot of apps that are available in the App Store offer in-app
purchases. This means that there are add-ons and extra
features that can be bought and downloaded to enhance the
app. An example of this would be purchasing a collection of
instruments and sounds for the GarageBand app, or buying
issues of a magazine from a Newsstand app. To find out what
in-app purchases an app offers, open its information window.
Scroll to the bottom and tap In-App Purchases. Here you will

Whether you are looking for the latest release from your favourite artists,
or the top blockbuster movies, begin by tapping on the category that you

of new and popular content. Below the recommendations you will find a
series of different subcategories helping to better organise the music and
videos available. Subcategories are based around different genres, albums,
singles, kids entertainment and more. At the very bottom of the category
window youll find a table layout, which offers a variety of quick links.
This will provide you with even more content. Quick links are often being
updated so its worth checking back on them. They are an easy way to
find new content, which is often on sale or cheap to buy. When browsing
for music and video by genre, use the top menu bar to whittle down your

5: Keep your images forever with you
Since the release of iOS 8, the iCloud has evolved and expanded to become
a formidable beast for handling all of your cloud storage needs. With your
new iCloud Drive you have greater freedom to store and retrieve files and,
working in conjunction with your Photos app, all of the images you take
can be uploaded straight to the cloud and made available to you from any
device or computer. Start off by visiting the iCloud section in Settings and
upgrading your standard iCloud service to iCloud Drive (its free and quick)
and then go to the Photos & Camera settings.
Now use the switch to enable the iCloud Photo Library and all of the
images you take will be automatically uploaded to iCloud and made
accessible on all of your devices. This is especially handy if you want to
present your days adventures as a slideshow to other people through Apple
TV on the big screen.

How to organise your photos
1: View your collections of photos
The app Photos groups your photos intelligently using the information
in the image files themselves youll find them sorted into Moments,
Collections and Years. These smart groupings gather together photos and
videos based on the time and location of where they were taken. Photos
can be divided into the Years they were shot. Each year carries Collections:
groups of photos shot at a similar time or place, such as a holiday. Within
these Collections are Moments that show individual or several of the photos
from that occasion, again which were taken at a specific time or place so,
for example, a day at the beach on the holiday in question.
This is an incredibly useful sorting system, as you can skim through the
thumbnails at a glance. Plus, thanks to all this information, you can use the
Search function to quickly find photos taken at a certain time, or in a specific
location in the world, just by typing a few letters.

1: Create a new Game Center profile
It really could not be easier to create a Game Center profile on an iPhone,
because your Apple ID is used as the main identifier. All you need to do
is go to Settings and look for the Game Center option in the left-hand
column. Tap it and you can then tap the top option, which will ask you to
enter your Apple ID email address and password. That is in effect all you
have to do to create a new Game Center profile. You can also attempt to
create multiple profiles for different devices by signing out of Game Center,
using a new email address and signing in as normal. This should still allow
you to use your main Apple ID for purchases, but will keep the gaming side
separate. You should be aware that this last method is not guaranteed to
work because the official setup from Apple is that only the Apple ID should
be used on one device and that this should be tied to it throughout all
activities that use Apple servers. Either way, choose a fun nickname!

1: Create a spreadsheet
Numbers always opens where you last left it. So if youre deep into a
spreadsheet, thats where you will be when you start next time. But the first
time you use it, you see a grid of icons representing your spreadsheets or folders
with more sheets in. By default its all arranged by when you last used a sheet:
those go at the top.
Without fail, though, the very top icon is just a + sign with the title Create
Spreadsheet. Tap on that and Numbers will show you a series of Appledesigned templates for typical types of spreadsheet documents. The one you
will most often use is the very first one: a simple spreadsheet called Blank.
There is another way to do this: in the grid view, you can tap the + sign to get
the option to create a spreadsheet. The latest version of Numbers also includes
options to open sheets via iTunes or a web server. However, for creating yourself
a new sheet, it is exactly the same process and saves you no time at all.

Projecting iPhone
How and when to do it
You can present straight from Keynote on
your iPhone to projection screens. If there
is a projector, its most likely to use VGA
and you can buy an iPhone Lightning-toVGA adaptor for 40 from Apple. HDMI is
becoming common, though, and there is
also a 40 Lightning-to-HDMI adaptor.
If you also have an iPad, its possible to
link the iPad to the VGA or HDMI and
then use your iPhone as a remote to
operate the presentation and allow you
to move freely. You can also display your
presentation using Apple TV if you have
access to this.
Keynote WorldMags.net
Build a presentation
1: Create a presentation from scratch
With most applications, like Pages and Numbers, its handy to pick a pre-made
template to start you off with. But for those presentations that demand getting
words and figures in, so you might most often start with a blank document and
worry about how it looks later. With Keynote, though, you really need to start
with a template. Its how your audience will see your presentation: it is the look
of every slide. So its important, but it also means youre stuck with whatever you
pick. There are ways to work around that and edit the presentation to your liking,
but they take a lot of effort youre really copying every element to a brand new
presentation so spend some time now. Choose Create Presentation and try
out a couple of templates: its hard to tell from the thumbnails whether youll like
them. There are 30 standard ones and then the same 30 redesigned for a wider
screen. Unless you know what equipment youll be presenting from, stick with
the standard set because they will work with all screens and projectors.

8: Duplicate slides
Youre using an existing template but after
a while, youve ended up making a lot
of changes to it. Perhaps youve added a
company logo to the top right of your slide.
Rather than keep adding that to every slide,
you can duplicate an existing one. It saves
effort but it also helps you keep headings
and other regular items staying in exactly the
same position between slides. Otherwise
even the tiniest of differences becomes a
distinct wobble when you transition slides. To
duplicate a slide, press on it and hold, choose
