MECHANISM OF
ACTION
Albendazole is found
to inhibit the
polymerization of
the parasite tubulin
into microtubules.
There is a higher
affinity of
albendazole to the
parasite tubulin and
so the activity is
mediated mainly
against the parasite
rather than on the
host. The loss of the
cytoplasmic
microtubules leads to
impaired uptake of
glucose by the larval
and adult stages of
the parasites. The
worm is then unable

DRUG
Generic Name:
Diphenhyramine
Hydrochloride
Brand Name:
Benadryl
Classification:
Antihistamine

50mg

Oral

Form:
Tablet

MECHANISM OF
ACTION
Histamine is
released by the body
during several types
of allergic reactions
and--to a lesser
extent--during some
viral infections, such
as the common cold.
When histamine
binds to receptors on
cells, it stimulates
changes within the
cells that lead to the
release of chemicals
that cause sneezing,
itching, and
increased mucus
production.
Antihistamines
compete with
histamine for cell
receptors and bind to
the receptors without
stimulating the cells.

Unknown. Thought
Relief of mild pain
to produce analgesia
or fever
by blocking
generation of pain
impulses, probably
by inhibiting
prostaglandin
synthesis in the CNS
or the synthesis or
action of other
substances that
sensitize pain
receptors to
mechanical or
chemical stimulation.
It is thought to relieve
fever by central
action in the
hypothalamic heatregulating center.

Contraindicated
in patients with
hypersensitivity
to the drug

Hematologic:
If there is fever,
hemolyticanemia,
assess patients fever
neutropenia,
or pain: type of pain,
leukopenia,
location, intensity,
pancytopenia
duration, temperature,
Hepatic: liver damage,
and diaphoresis.
Tell patient not to use
jaundice
Metabolic:hypoglycem
for marked fever
ia
(higher than 39.5
Skin: rash, urticaria
C). Fever persisting
longer than 3 days, or
recurrent fever unless
directed by
prescriber.
Avoid giving patient
aspirin or aspirin-like
analgesics because it
inhibits platelet
aggregation.
Teach client warning
signs that needs
immediate attention
of the physician.
Evaluate therapeutic
effects.
