The School of Nursing, Mayo Hospital, Lahore established in 1883 and imparting training
to the Students for three year General Nursing. At present 250 Nursing Students is

medicine. On the basis of this history they determine that the patient deserve Zakat or
not.
There are two types of patients one is hepatitis C patients and second is general patient.
General patient includes neurology, cardiology, dermatology, psychiatry and Asthma.
Neurology patients usually have epilepsy and cardiology patients have IHD, HTN and etc.
Some patients are really very poor they cannot even afford a single tablet. But they are
given medicine worth rupees of 2000. Some patients there dont have required things like
ID card or signature from Professor or Assistant professor then medical social officer does
not bother them to go and bring required things. They help them with their staff. They are
really cooperative.

Overview:
Before starting VIS I thought it is a useless activity. UCP should send students for
internship rather than VIS. I thought it would be better for students to get some
professional practice before going into market. I thought social work has nothing to do
with engineers and business students. I thought this social work should only be for
sociology students.
But I was totally wrong. After experiencing VIS my view are totally changed. Now I think
VIS should be compulsory in all the universities of Pakistan. VIS should be of 100 hours
instead of 65 hours. I worked two extra days after completing my VIS, I wish I could spend
some more time there but there are too many students waiting for VIS. It gave me
pleasure after helping the poor people.
VIS helps us in social interaction. VIS helps us in getting familiar with office environment.
VIS helps us in understanding different aspects of society.
VIS programs also motivate the employees who are working in these organizations as
youth participate in these programs. VIS also helps in character building of individuals
who participate in these programs. These programs are nowadays a basic need for our
society because majority of our society consists of illiterate people and with the help of
organizations and these programs students can contribute well for the betterment of our
society.
After completing VIS a person feels good that he has done something for the betterment
of the society which encourages one to do such type of social work and projects in future
as well. We can encourage our other fellow beings as well to do these type programs and
contribute for the betterment of society in any manner.
My job was there to take history of patients and filling Zakat card. While taking history I
interact with patients, I listen to them and understand there problems. All these patients
want love care and attention. If you listen them they feel relax and satisfied. And this
thing gives u real happiness that someone feels satisfied after talking with you.

they determine either the patient deserve zakat or other funds or not. After taking history
Miss Asma or ther MSO Sign the document to ensure that the patient really deserves
Zakat or other funds.
Mr. Khizar told me how to enter data on cards of patients, and registered them in to the

because the staff member Mr. kizar is absent on that day I undertake all the responsibility
of Mr. kizar.

According to instruction of Miss Tahira, my task is took history of child kinza who is
admitted in child ward and provide free medicine to that child because there attendant is
very poor and they not in a position to arrange medicine, I provide medicine from patient
welfare fund by following proper procedure. This was one of the turning point of my life as
we was given a task to arrange medicine for a cancer patient who required and injection
on daily basis for his cure and for the last one week he was deprived of it because the
family was unable to afford an injection for RS 2000 on daily basis for five days. We met
the ward attendant, registrar and most importantly the senior doctor who was treating

days we sanctioned his medicine on daily basis so that his precious life could be saved. I
was given the task to check on patient sikandar who was admitted in the eye ward since
3 days or more. He underwent critical operation of eyes. He is very poor and after his

Lesson Learnt:

many people in our country is not having excess of better medication treatment because
they are poor. By helping them these poor people I really enjoyed. helps us in social
interaction. VIS helps us in getting familiar with office environment. VIS helps us in
understanding different aspects of society. It tells us how to serve humanity, How to help
poor people, How to help ill people.

Recommendations:
There is only one recommendation that patients in mayo hospital are very poor and they
came from very far areas of Punjab. Gate keeper of room no 28 talk very rudely with
every patient there. I think everyone has self-respect that should not be hurt. The
procedure of getting the medicine free on funds is very complicated and long process.
The Parchi system is also not very well. The department of Baby Day Care is also not
good. The infrastructure on building not good, the care tacker are must b more them 5
ant the alternative of loadsheding must be arranged. I know the problems going with
patients, sometimes they dont understand but we should handle them with love and
care, otherwise mam Asma and mam Tahira has very good attitude with patients. They
really
respect
them
and
help
them.
