Suggested time: 4 weeks
A unit linking to Interpersonal Development, Mathematics, Information and communication Technology
(ICT)
Rationale: Gain an understanding how choices for items of clothing can be dictated by the weather and season.
Aim: At the end of the unit, students will be able to name items of clothing, name different weathers, decipher weather
symbols, name seasons and understand how choices for clothing items can be dictated by the weather and season.

come to the front of the class to
match weather expressions

on the board. The teacher also
enunciates the meaning of the

groups of three to guess the cities
in Australia for which the weather
forecast has been given.

students compare and state the
difference in temperatures
between the eight cities.

Students volunteer to read two


different versions of the weather
forecast for Jakarta in Indonesia
and for Victoria in Australia. (One
version uses formal register and
the other uses casual register)
Students are to work in groups of
five. Each group is given a card
detailing the weather forecast for
the week except for two days.
Their task is to ask other groups
for the information. However to
receive the information they must
also give information about the
weather for other days. Groups
are only allowed to exchange one
detail at a time with any other
group.
Complete the speech bubbles
while listening to four weather
reporters reading the weather for
their city.

wrap the sarong the traditional
