Page 2, Q3. The instructor teaches in a way that helps me to learn or reinforces the material from the class.
I really love how she gives a lot of examples and explains their meaning. It really
helps me get an idea of what I should be writing about.
Miss Cara does a very good job reinforcing the material into our heads, and
makes us apply what we learn.
She is always there to review my work or help me with some questions via
canvas or in class.
She is more organized that any of my other teachers, and is always prepared for
class.
Page 2, Q5. Assignments and grading procedures are explained in a way that makes sense to me.
I get a lot of constructive feedback, I see my work in a completely new light with
all the comments and observations; which are a lot and I think it's great Cara
takes the time to do this.
The assignments are always explained clearly so if some one gets a bad grade
in her class then it is solely their fault. Also if you don't understand the
assignment, grading process, etc, Miss Stoddard is often available to talk to and
clarify.
There are always in class instructions, Canvas instructions, and if needed she'll
go over it again to make sure you understand what it is the requirements are.
One thing that would be very helpful is if she would explain the essay
assignments more clearly. Sometimes they're confusing, I don't know exactly
what she's looking for. Maybe if she would start explaining the essays at the
beginning of the units it would give us more time to think about what we need to
do? just a suggestion.
Page 3, Q6. The instructor clearly explains the topics we cover in class.
We go over in class the topics we are studying every day, and she teaches and
explains them very well.
Always.
10 of 14
Page 3, Q7. The tests and/or assignments are related to content covered in the course.
Everything we study is on the test, there is never any random material thrown in.
Page 3, Q8. The instructor maintains a respectful environment where I am encouraged to ask questions and make
comments.
She really involves everyone in the class. She gives an opportunity for everyone
so they can say what they think and/or their opinion.
I've made a couple dumb comments and I wasn't laughed at. I feel free to raise
my hand and give my opinion all the time.
She is very encouraging and accepting of any answer that someone presents.
She encourages us often to speak up and expects us to.
Page 4, Q9. The instructor has high standards for achievement in this class and challenges me to think.
Ms. Stoddard makes us think outside the box and helps us examine our thoughts
in more depth.
All the material forces me to think about the structure and content of my work.
The quizzes and tests always make you think so it doesn't do anyone any good
to memorize the material, because you'll actually have to learn it.
She's giving us more difficult assignments because she feels we are intelligent
enough to accomplish what is being asked of us.
Page 4, Q10. The instructor promotes an environment where students of different race, ethnicity, background or
identity can work together in a productive manner.
Very accepting of different races and she promotes acceptance of many different
identities.
She doesn't promote it, but we live in an era where your different race, ethnicity,
background or identity do not matter.
11 of 14
Page 4, Q11. The instructor is available on an individual basis outside of class (by email, phone or office hours,

Always.
Online.
Definitely! Cara teaches the best English classes ever. She's the best English
intructor I've had so far, makes me even enjoy the subject. And I used to despise
it.
Absolutely! She is by far the best teacher I have had at the college.

Page 6, Q15. List strengths or weaknesses for this instructor. Any additional information, please list
Her strengths are she is willing to help any student that needs help, she makes
sure everyone understands assignments, and she is very open to everyone's
opinion. One of her weaknesses is that it takes away for her to grade some
assignments.
A strength is that she always wants to improve and help us improve. This is why
she went to that English conference.
Cara Stoddard is very encouraging and constantly asks us questions about the
material and what our opinions are. She's a very engaging instructor.

Strengths- always ties in to everyday things, explains terms well, friendly and

Page 6, Q16. The instructor keeps his/her class site up-to-date. (The instructor is prepared throughout the
course.)
We've followed the schedule listed in the syllabus really closely. And I think we
discuss pretty up-to-date event in the class.
Page 6, Q17. The instructor demonstrates an active engagement with the course and students on a regular basis
(email, announcements, small group and/or whole class communication, etc.).
Always tries to help and is available via email, which is really helpful.

Page 6, Q17. The instructor demonstrates an active engagement with the course and students on a regular basis

She sends us extra information that helps with research for our essays.
Page 7, Q18. The instructors class site is clear and easy to navigate.
I know where to go all the time, it's easy to check my grades and the homework.
And to turn in all assignments online.

She always has our day planned out and is very organized.
Page 2, Q5. Assignments and grading procedures are explained in a way that makes sense to me.
The essays are worth the major chunk of my grade. How it should be.
She does a great job and is very polite while going over our assignments if we

She always explains why we got that grade and how we can do better on the
next test or assignment.

She's always so positive that it allows even the quietest people to speak up and
be able to ask questions.

I already have recommended her to many other students and I specifically chose
her for next quarter English 102.

Page 6, Q15. List strengths or weaknesses for this instructor. Any additional information, please list
Strengths: Teaches well. Very elaborate on her topics. Challenges us. Shes
helpful. Weakness: Kinda late on grading updates.
Strengths: She explains the assignments clearly and she is willing to students
whenever they're having a hard time with an assignment. Weaknesses: She
takes a long time to grade which is tough on students especially if they are trying
to improve their essay.
she is very interactive with her students she makes time for her students when
needing help. she has a positive attitude, very open minded.
Great at answering all questions and if the question is something the teacher
doesn't know she looks up the answer promptly.
I love that we get to work on new topics. She makes us write about Maclemore
and that was very interesting. I have no weaknesses for her!

Sometimes treats students like they're middle school children, kind of like they
have less knowledge than expected. Easy to communicate with and has a easy
going class environment.

she is there to help u when you get stuck on a assignment. she explains things

Cara explains the material she is teaching to the point. Great Instructor.
Her class is a little boring at times, but shes a really nice teacher. We just spend
a lot of time in the beginning of the class on Ads and its a little boring sometimes.
But shes really pleasant and easy to talk to. I like her as a teacher.
gives clear information that is covered in class. gives good homework to help
with essays. she challenges you to think critically. good communication with
students in and out of class.
I think caras strengths are bringing things to our attention that we may not know I
really like how she explains things and is very very organized! I like how she
always offers to meet in her office if we don't understand or need help especially
on our essays.

Page 2, Q3. The instructor teaches in a way that helps me to learn or reinforces the material from the class.
She tends to assume everyone in class has the same vocabulary as her, and by including that and her fast pace
explanations, I'm often left confused in class.
Nothing really seems to stick just because of the amount of information received in a short amount of time.
I can tell she is very excited to teach the material to her students.
It's a new class and has all the same kinks to work out that any new class would. The organization and preparedness of
the instructor is fine for such a new class.
Page 2, Q5. Assignments and grading procedures are explained in a way that makes sense to me.
At first she didn't with our first major assignment but she seems to have realized that and attempted to correct with the
2nd essay

Page 3, Q6. The instructor clearly explains the topics we cover in class.
Cara is great at explaining the topics but I feel she often reaches a bit too far. Think grasping at straws, I can understand
this though because it's the first time this class has been taught and she still doesn't have all the kinks worked out.
As was said before, too much information in two short a time for it to really be concise.
Page 3, Q7. The tests and/or assignments are related to content covered in the course.
Yes, and no. Study sheets that she claims will also provide answers to the test didn't.
Page 3, Q8. The instructor maintains a respectful environment where I am encouraged to ask questions and make comments.
It is encouraged to discuss the material read and formulate ideas and concepts around them.
She has built a classroom environment that allows students to interact with each other, and encourages students to share
their thoughts/opinions.
Page 4, Q9. The instructor has high standards for achievement in this class and challenges me to think.
Previously mentioned.
Page 4, Q10. The instructor promotes an environment where students of different race, ethnicity, background or identity can work together in a

No Bias.

only in one case has an exam not been graded in a reasonable amount of time... I'm still waiting for it to be graded.
This is a very fun and challenging class that with a bit more work in knocking out the kinks would make a great addition
as a permanent course. Cara is great in everything she does and is a fun professor to be around.

She is pretty punctual. She also allows for questions to be asked but she knows when we need to move the topic along.
Professor Stoddard also helps us understand what we did wrong in our essays and quizzes. She is very nice and flexible.
Being open after 1 is a great time to talk with her about class related things.
Very informative during class and helps as much as possible if a student has confusion or questions. Allows for open
discussion and opinions through out class periods.
She makes students think critically, but doesn't seem to really care about what the students think. When someone makes
a comment or says something, sometimes she just keeps going like no one said anything.
late to class by a few minutes most days but other than that no complaints

Motivating. Allows to express opinions regarding everything she teaches. Answers all questions and is usually available
online, which is awesome when you've got important questions.
14
She is kind and helpful. She is a great teacher and is considerate about how we feel.
15
Cara is very good at making everyone in the class feel welcome and wanting to ask questions and otherwise participate
in class. She does seem a bit unsure of herself sometimes but that can probably be explained by how new the class is for
everyone.

I have learned things that I did not know and have been expanding my vocabulary in this class.

each day I come into class I know what we are going to be doing. Cara tells the class at the end of class what to expect

The only thing I could think of was maybe choose different content to read that ISN'T so crude.
The only thing I have a comment about is that I wish that we had gotten a entire paper about the PIE method by itself so
we could refer back to it while writing our papers.
During computer lab time, I felt Cara went a little fast and I was confused for most of the instructions given. Only because
we had to think of what we wanted to write about in the exercise at the time and learn new things on posting to our blogs
or looking things up. For me personally it was too much at once sometimes.
Strengths- always organized never lost with what is going on in class Weaknesses- I find it hard to answer questions in
class because I have felt like you tell students their answer is wrong when the class discussion is mainly based on
opinions, so maybe that's why nobody wants to talk in class.
10
Weaknesses include being organized in a physical manner, her papers are all over the place some days and that needs
work. She should com prepared to hand out anything she needs to not digging in her bag to find something.
11
12
She is really good with taking your ideas on essays and helping you expand them. She makes the coursework easy to
understand through group discussions. However she could improve on getting more people involved.
13

Page 2, Q3. The instructor teaches in a way that helps me to learn or reinforces the material from the class.
The atmosphere of this class is open and the content of literature we have covered has been vast, extremely interesting,
and relative to our lives as both students and human beings. It is an environment where I see the majority of my
classmates actually wanting to contribute their best efforts. Our instructor allows us room for creative analyzation, while
guiding us to catch deeper meanings that we may not have come up with on our own. I feel like I have learned how to
approach content with a more discerning eye, which will assist me when I must manipulate material in the future that
doesn't necessarily please or interest me on a personal level. There is a healthy balance of freedom of speech and
requirement to adhere to guidelines through assignment deadlines and specific requirements.
I feel that Cara Stoddard did an amazing job of having high expectations, while helping the students achieve those
expectations.
this teacher really gets to each persons responses and makes sure everyone understands unlike other teachers i've had.
she makes me feel comfortable even if i answer wrong.
I thought she was going to be a lot harder to understand and to get along with than she really is. The way she teaches is
super easy to understand and she is easy to talk to if you need help or have questions.
She's a teacher: she presents the material she expects us to learn, and we talk about it in class. What more is there to
say, lol.
I really appreciate our instructors efforts to supplement reading material along with our required book purchases. The
units were chunked in manageable amounts of material, but on the edge of being challenging. I really wanted to read
more of some of these authors, and will do so in my free time this summer.
She is extremely prepared and has the whole class schedule up so the students always know what we do in class and
the homework we need to have done for each day.
She is generally organized in that she has a good plan, but she sometimes struggles in not being able to cover everything
in her plan.
16 of 22
Page 2, Q5. Assignments and grading procedures are explained in a way that makes sense to me.
Her canvas system is set up differently then normal teachers would do, i find that it's a lot better system and i'm happy to
use it. It makes dealing with class easier and tells me how each day goes so i can stay prepared and on top of things.
Page 3, Q6. The instructor clearly explains the topics we cover in class.
My instructor has been abundantly patient with me, and I can also see, with others, when either the topic was challenging
to own, or the technical aspects, for example, in blogging were hard to understand.
Not only does she explain them, but we always end up doing examples in class too so i can learn by doing them with her.
She makes sure to check that we fully understands what she expects of us.

Page 3, Q8. The instructor maintains a respectful environment where I am encouraged to ask questions and make comments.
I love the discussions we have in this class. I don't want to miss it. Healthy, and we move on before things get too
intense. Urge me to research and contemplate when i am beyond homework or classroom environment. Inspiring.
We are encouraged to speak our minds and even if a student is a little off, we always brain storm and the teacher gets us
right back on topic and includes different perspectives.
I loved the discussions that we would have during class. They helped me relate to the stuff we were working on.
Stoddard always encourages class discussion about the contents we are covering in order for all the students to get
creative ideas or answer questions. She treats every students input respectfully.
She always asks for our opinions first before giving us hers and makes sure that we understand the topic fully.
Page 4, Q9. The instructor has high standards for achievement in this class and challenges me to think.
Occasionally she cancels a problem because she decides it was "too hard" for the class to handle. Challenge us. Give
us a chance to exceed expectations.

Great group pairing, and diverse. She switches it up and it is helpful to learn from one another.

wish she could grade essays sooner but io understand she has other English classes as well
Really wish I could take her Poetry class in the fall. Starting nursing program and fearful of taking on anything additional. I
hope it is offered in two years.
Second time taking this teachers class, i love her class its very fun.

Open mind, nonjudgemental, high expectations but willing to help us reach them at individual pacing, eager to introduce
material, calm and patient. fun.
Strengths 1. Make the best use of class time 2. Goes over previous homework assignments or discusses upcoming
homework assignments 3. Keeps a good learning environment during class Weaknesses 1. Might not always grade
assignments in a timely manner
This instructor was thorough in teaching each section, despite having to go through so much in a small time frame and
her class encouraged us students to be open-minded.
really good at listening and explaining assignments, shes always nice to everyone, and makes me feel comfortable in the
classroom.
Challenges us into a new territory. Makes us think and analyze the purpose of an assignment. A little bit confusing at
times not always.
includes all students makes class enjoyable likes to talk to us like people and not just students
She is very organized and always has an answer if i have a question. If i dont understand something she does a good job
explaining it, and i can reach her at almost any time of the day.
Patient, clear in what she expects, always available when needed, encouraging.

The quizzes make me actually have to read the articles and being able to retake
them helps me remember it better
Not everyone can learn the material in the way she teaches. utterly confusing
and frustrating. makes you not even want to go to class
She does a very good job at giving instruction and is a pleasant instructor.
She always has everything planned out and ready for the class so we can go
strait to the lesson for the day.
Page 2, Q5. Assignments and grading procedures are explained in a way that makes sense to me.
I like how she sits down and actually explains in a way I understand.
She makes sure we know where and how we went wrong and asks questions to
make sure we are getting what we need.

Cara was very pleasant and I enjoyed her class. I also felt I learned a lot from
her.
She is very good in making sure everyone knows what's going on and has a
better understanding of the topic we are learning about.
She's very good at not seeming like she's better than you. She seems like she's
human, unlike some who act like they can do no wrong and always have
everything together well.
I like how she encourages us to have our own opinion and how she helps us find
material to use. She is encouraging, and she explains things well.

Stoddard allows to ask questions even if there the most smallest, irrelevant
questions. When I don't u derstand something, she always tries to review it as
much as she can so I'll make sure what I'm doing.
I really enjoy the way she has us practice our writing skills, for me it has
improved the way I academically write.
always has an outline of the material we're going to do in class upon the board.
She always has a great topic to discuss in class & always comes prepared with

She always has a plan for us and we, as a class, fallow the syllabus very closely.

Page 4, Q9. The instructor has high standards for achievement in this class and challenges me to think.
When I met up with her after class to discuss my essay, not only does she
explain what she expects in the essay assignment, she actually pushes you to
think and review your own essay without just giving you the "right" answers.
Assignments are very challenging and very hard. Sometimes I don't know what
to do.
Page 4, Q11. The instructor is available on an individual basis outside of class (by email, phone or office hours,

She always reminds us in class, and on canvas tht we can e-mail her at anytime
if we ever have questions with homework assignments, essays, groups
assignments, etc.
She is always telling us that we can come in even if it's not homework related,
she is willing to help us.

Sometimes she can back-up on some grading, but she does apologize and
explain why that is. And that's fine with me.
There aren't any dates on the syllabus that are for assignment returns, but we do
recieve feedback very soom after submission.
I loved her class so much this semester that I'm already looking forward to
registering for English 102 with her too!
She makes dumb assignments which are worth a lot of points, and students get
bad grades. Too much homework everyday.

organized, fun,
Strengths: Very helpful teacher, if i didn't have her as a teacher, by essays would
be horrible. She's really good at explaining and giving me feedback.
I think Stoddard's class overall was very challenging, but in a good way! You can
tell that she wants to challenge her students to be a better writer, while at the
same time, learning something new throughout the semester. I have learned
new techniques and can't wait what she has for English 102!
10
Sucks at making assignments, too much homework everyday and over the

Strengths: -friendly -easy to fallow -good communicator -cares for her students teaches, in a way that I can't describe, so that I and others will learn and

She is funny. She always explains things when she knows we don't have a clue

Page 2, Q3. The instructor teaches in a way that helps me to learn or reinforces the material from the class.
She had to re-teach a class period because she admitted she hadn't explained
things in a way that she felt the class understood. She was correct.
Overly so
It is often unclear as to which room the class will be held in. Several times this
has changed last minute.

cara is one of the best teachers at bbcc. she teachers in a way that you can
always understand, explains things very well.
Over schedules herself and isn't able to get to some assignments. (Which is fine
by me :) She is an excellent teacher. Very personable. Thinks outside of the box.
And is without doubt extremely competent. I have been frustrated by her
assignments because they lie outside of the mainstream, but she analyses them
with precision and conveys it clear as a bell which expands our learning
experience and makes us think deeper. I like thinking analytically, even when
pushed outside of my comfort zone.
She does a great job at answering any questions and explaining the material.

Page 7, Q18. The instructors class site is clear and easy to navigate.
I don't keep up with it, but she explains it in class using the sight itself, so i never
have to.
Cara Stoddard is one of my favorite teachers and i would love to take another
one of her classes except for the fact that I hate English. Cara makes it bearable.
