Subject: The recycling committee's feasibility study

INTRODUCTION

The recycling program in place at Greening Corporation currently consists of three

divided units that operate separately from one another. Administrative Team Workspace, the
Garage, storage, cafeteria, kitchen, Computer team service, repair area, supply room and spare
parts all have distinct operations that are managed differently.
Besides Administrative Team Workspace, Executive office, reception area, and lounge
the building accommodates all office in a building for recycling and waste disposal. Two dump
trucks are leased to collect recyclables and trash on different days. Waste is then transported to
CPRecycling Center, located in Camp Pendleton, California. Waste is collected from large totes
located in the rear of buildings. One tote holds recyclables, and the others hold trash. Totes were
purchased in the past, and therefore do not require a monthly fee for rental. Building services
commingles all recyclables due to the labor required to separate the materials. Plastic, aluminum,
cardboard, and mixed paper are collected from 10 gallon bins and commingled in totes.
CPRecycling Center awards Greening Corporation with a small profit from aluminum products
recycled.

PROJECT

Employees are able to recycle while on their operation labor in this building as all offices
have recycling bins located on the floor. Furthermore every office will have little bins put glasses,
paper, plastic, aluminum. However this option can be little difficult because we will need around 3
or 4 cans and they will take too much space in each office. In addition, bins are disparately
located around buildings. Not every office is equipped with recycling bins; therefore not every
trash can is accompanied by a recycling bin. Often, employees will not hold on to a bottle until a
recycling bin is found or search for a recycling bin within a building.
Currently, Greening Corporation diverts approximately 27% of all waste generated on the
building from going to the landfill. Sources part of GC recycling operations estimate 40 -50% of
material thrown away could be recycled. Causes for the lack of recycling are unknown, but
acknowledging the deficiency in recycling can help us to set goals for the future of the GC
recycling program. The following recommendations are goals that should be addressed when
developing the new recycling program at Greening Corporation.
Those are the article that can be recycle: Aluminum
Plastic
Glasses
Computers
Sodas cans
Paper in disuse

MEMORANDUM
To: Recycling Committee
Janis Caroll
From: Telly R. Zavala
Date: September 14, 2011
Subject: Information concern Recycles Bins cost and budget

Recycle is one of the most important things in this century, thats for this reason
that Greening Corporation is implementing new recycling bins in the offices inside the
building. This document is going to explain you where employees can deposit those
items, where is the main recycling station, what kind of recycling bins and stations we
will put in and out the building, and what color we are going to use for those bins. The
colors that the Recycling Committee is blue and green (blue for glasses, plastic and
green for paper, magazines)
The Greening Corporation building is divided for 9 subsections (Administrative
Team Workspace, the Garage, storage, cafeteria, kitchen, Computer team service,
repair area, supply room and spare parts) in each area we are going to put two small
bins (blue and green) with one page paste in the wall with a graphic inside the page to
indicate what you can put inside and what not (landmark). Also the total of the bins will
be 18 (9 blue and 9 green) and 1 Recycling Cans with 4 hole in the top.

BBA212 TECHNICAL OF WRITING

The dimension of the small bins could be 18 with 23 of large, 16 width, and 14
high and the cost is around $/.10.95 to $/. 11.50 Each. Furthermore those small bins
have to be located in corner of each office preferably so these bins wont be an obstacle
in case of sinister. The Main Recycle Cans should be located behind the building and
after those bins get full they should throw in the cans and when the cans get full the
Recycling Center RCPendleton could pick up weekly.
One Company that we can buy those bins and cans could be The 3d Studio with
cheap and high quality of plastic items (from
http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_search.aspx?id_category_0=1&search=recycling )
also they have a good variety of bins and cans that we can use in this project. We have
to be very specific about drop in those containers the correct items, green for papers
and magazines and blue for glass, sodas cans, and plastic. Additional perform and
supervision of those containers can be check by me or any of those members of this
committee.

REPORT

RECYCLING SYSTEM
PROGRESS

The operational change introduced in August, 2011 have include more efficient
use of cans and bins (locate in each office in the building of Greening Corporation, they
are two with blue and green color like emblem) workforce from employees and the
implementation of Main Recycling Container behind the building for deposit of all
materials come from the little binds. The combined savings and increased income has
resulted in a projected approximate 15% and when those material been resale to
Recycling Pendleton Center we receive between 100- 500 dollars back.

This program is a good solution for reuse of waste of papers, sodas cans, plastic
and everything that is good for recycling. More for less with an in house idea to
collecting those items within the borough and the ability to process this material for
resale, this committee is able to tailor collection and disposal to improve the services it
provides and reduce costs of collect and send to RCPendleton.

In August 2011 the Committee was able to increase the plastic types it collects to
all rigid household plastics which included items such as yoghurt pots and margarine
tubs. This simplified the recycling message for employees.

In September same year the Committee began collecting aluminum foil.

Participation for this material has been promising; however will be unknown until a

BBA212 TECHNICAL OF WRITING

Christmas back log of recycling materials has been fully processed. Members are
requested to consider what percentage of income from those recycling items should go
to local charities, to assist the promotion of this service and with this option we could
use that for give a good image to the Corporation, and to divert more material from
going to landfill.

In November 2011 recycling will be expanded to include Tetrapak (cardboard

cartons which have contained liquid such as milk or juice). For this option we could
increase the volume of items for recycling and increase our profit for the resale. The
Waste Management duties for 2011/12 are to concentrate on increasing recycling
participation. Work on a promotional leaflet for all of recycling services is presently
being worked on. In March 2012 two refuse and recycling vehicles will be fitted with the
RCPendleton advertising system which will allow the Committee to make best use of
the sides of its vehicles to advertise its services and we will receive profit.

CONCLUSION

Develop a recycling center on campus that services employees that do not have access to city
or private recycling programs at home.
Increase the percentage of waste recycled offside and inside the building.
Increase the amount of recycling bins on building (indoors and outdoors).
Increase employee awareness, education and participation in the recycling program.
Unify the separate recycling departments.
Revise GCs contract with CPRecycling Center to ensure maximal benefits for GC.
