LESSON PLAN

A. Students and Setting

Students:
Teens between 15-16 years old with intermediate proficiency. There are 24 students in the class. All of them
are from Venezuela. Their native language is Spanish.
Setting: Public school where students are studying English as a Foreign Language. Students do not have
access to wi-fi or LCD projector. The classroom has a whiteboard, speakers and a mp3 player. The desks in
the classroom are round with 3 chairs each one (when students get into the classroom, they sit in groups of
three randomly). There are 8 tables and 24 chairs. Classes are 60 minutes long and meet once a week.

B: Lesson Background
Students have been working with the new OPD (Oxford Picture Dictionary), second edition. They have
already reviewed and studied 16 units from that dictionary. They will work in teams to play the Scrabble
game. Each group will bring the scrabble game. All the groups have already been created by themselves.

C. Learning Objectives/Expected Results

Students will be able to review and put into practice what they have been learning so far in the course.
Moreover, they will have the chance to practice: speaking (they can say if the word exists, its meaning and if
the word is correct or not), reading (they will be reading the words while they are placed on the board),
listening (they will hear their classmates while they are explaining the meaning of words), writing (they will
work on written spelling). By the end of the game, students will have integrated different language skills
and used metacognition in a fun way naturally.

F: Reflection
The idea of using the Scrabble game is to integrate authentic materials into the lesson. This game was not
created for being used in the classroom. Students have the change to challenge their minds and consolidate
what they have been doing so far in the 16 units of the OPD. Besides, the game allows them to integrate
different language skills. When this game is used in class, students feel comfortable while they are using the
target language.
