INTRODUCTION TO
MACHINE (Lathe)
Lathe is a machine that removed metal from the work piece to the
required shape and sizes. Lathe machine also used to do works
such as cutting, drilling, removing screws, grinding and shading.
There are many types of lathe machine such as speed lathe,
bench lathe and tool room lathe machine.

The cutting process is done by moving the tool bits into the work
piece that is turning. The tool bits is place vertically to the work
piece or in the right angle to the axis of the work piece to get the
cutting process done.

The tool bits needs to be grind before using it to the work piece.

Objectives
1. To know the basic of workshop process
2. To understand the functions of each parts of lathe machine
3. To understand how the tool bits is work with the work pieces
4. To understand the shape of the tool bits and its functions.
5. To adopt safety precaution on gridding and turning process.
6. To train students to use gauges with more efficient.

Safety Precautions
1. Make sure wear safety boots before start doing
workshop practices.
2. Make sure the work place is clean and unharmed.
3. Always wear safety glasses or goggles when using
hand tools or powered machine tools
4. Be careful while doing work such as grinding and
cutting the work piece.
5. Tell the instructor or lecture on duty if any accidents
happen.
6. Know where the First Aid Kit, fire extinguisher and
any safety equipment are located in the
workshop/laboratory.
7. Do not joking around the work area when working or
when the machine is on.
8. Clean all the work area and the machines after work
is done.
9. Switch of the machine and all the switches before
leaving the laboratory/workshop.

Discussion

Based on the experience, I realized that in machine

workshop, safety rules are important to apply. While
doing the project, I know that I need to obey the safety
rules and my lectures command to prevent any accident
might happen to me or to people around me.
Besides, I learned how to measure work pieces using
gauges devices such as vernier calipers. If I do not know
how to get the right measure using the right techniques
of using the calipers, surely this project would not be
successful.
Lastly, I learned how to use the right equipment on the
right purpose, to make sure my project came out to be
good and successful.

Conclusion

From this working process, the turning process thought

students how to use the lathe machine in a right way, the
safety precautions and the process included. This process
also thought students how to get the right measurements
as required.
This skill of operating this lathe machine is necessary to
be thought and understand by the students to improvise
their hand skills.
