Hydraulic Oil Analysis on Linde Heavy Trucks !

This guideline covers the following truck models
359
318
356
357

Tier 2 & Tier 3

Tier 3
Tier 3
Tier 3

H100 H180
C90
H420-H480 C360 C400
All Models

In all high pressure hydraulic systems the oil lifetime is limited because of
a)
b)
c)
d)

Wear and tear in the hydraulic system

Temperature impact
Water ingress because of condensation
External contamination

The standard oil change interval on the trucks covered by this guideline is for
318 & 359
356 & 356 US
357

6000 Working hours

3000 Working hours
3000 Working hours

This change intervals are calculated on the worst case scenario in countrys where there is
no possibility to get the oil checked in a laboratory .
To get the maximum/best result out of any oil check we need to take a oil sample as the
reference just after the installation or latest at the 50 Hrs maintenance !
The sample should be taken from one of the installed pressure test points at a minimum oil
temperature of 50 C
318 / 359 A or B pressure test port on the distribution manifold block on the drive pump
356 Pilot pressure test port
357 Pilot pressure or Ls or P pressure test port
The amount of sample oil should be at least 2 Litres , before the sample will be taken we
have to clean up the test port , then at least 1 litre has to be drained before the sample will
be collected into a clean dry canister / bottle ! 0,5 Litre should now already be checked by
for example WEAR CHECK , Hydac or other Laboratory able to do an oil check .

SERVICE TRAINING
This reference sample and the results of the first oil analyses must be kept for further
reference , the oil on a dry /dark , cool place !
After 2750 Hrs on 356 and 357 trucks and 5750 on 318/359 trucks a second sample ( max
0,5 Ltr ) should be taken from the same port at approximately the same temperature as the
first sample and send together with 0,5 Ltr from the original sample for a comparison check
to for example ,
WEAR CHECK , Hydac or other Laboratorys able to do an oil check .

The limits for the wear indicators are

Water content
Acid
Viscosity Index
based on VG 46 for 356 /357
based on VG 68 for 318/ 359

800 PPM
0,8 %
Lower Limit VG 41
Lower Limit VG 58

The maximum size and amount of particles out of a sample of 100ml of the oil for class 18/13
according to ISO 4406 must not exceed
130 000 - 250 000 parts bigger then 5 micron
4000 - 8000 parts bigger then 15 micron
For the judgement on the premature wear on major components we should also take into
account,
Iron content
Cooper content
Aluminium content

Indicator of wear on bearings, pistons , valve spools

Indicator of wear on the piston sliding shoes, pump barrel
sliding surface.
Wear on charge / Pilot pumps

The amount of this particles has to be compared with the original sample!
The experience of the Laboratory used for the oil analysiss will give further advice if the oil
Can be longer used or if the oil has to be changed!
The oil check has to continued onwards after every 500 working hours!
