A Man After Gods Own Heart

Acts 13:22 - 'I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do
everything I want him to do' Even though David was a terrible sinner, having
committed adultery (Bathseba) and murder.
Life: 1 and 2 Chronicles / 1 and 2 Kings / Psalms
Davids life was a portrait of success and failure, and it highlights the fact that he
was far from perfect. But what made David a cut above the rest was his attitude
when facing Goliaths.
1. He had absolute faith in the Lord from small to big things. (1 Samuel 17:37)
2. He meditated on Gods words. (Psalm 119:47-48)
Half of the 150 psalms in the Bible is written by David and mostly about His
feelings and experiences pointed to Gods words.
Psalm 1:1-3 gives us instructions on what to do on His Word delight and
meditate then we shall be blessed
He was a worshipper. Consider some of his last words even after some of his
greatest sins: 1 Chronicles 29:10-13
David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,
"Praise be to you, O Lord, God of our father Israel, from everlasting to
everlasting. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and
the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and
honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are
strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God, we give
you thanks, and praise your glorious name.
3. He repented His sins. (2 Samuel 11:2-5, 2 Samuel 12:13)
Admitting your sins is one thing, repenting and changing is another. (Psalm
51:1-2)
1 John 1:9 says: If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our

sins, and to cleasne us from all unrighteousness because the blood of Jesus Christ is
able to cleanse us from all our sins.

4. He proclaimed Gods goodness in his life. (Psalm 26:6-7, Psalm 100:4)

I said to the Lord, You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.
Psalms 16:2
What makes us a man after Gods own heart? Letting God have control.
West is Philistia and East is Israelites each wanted to extend their territory but
cannot completely eliminate the other.

Goliath is 9.5ft tall (2 ft taller than Shaquille ONeal need not to jump to shoot ball
in a basket), his armors weighs 148lbs, he even had a shield-bearer (v7,41).
Bible scholars say that David was just 15 y/o when he killed Goliath.
Not about Davids courage or strength but about Gods power manifested in his
weakness (v 37,45,47)
Yahwehs reputation is at stake here. That matters to me, that matters to me
enough to risk my life for it. Dale Ralph Davis
