1.Pupils recap the chant The Mat On The Sand.
2. Use the three words in the Listening and Speaking Lesson : [sand], [mat], [ ant]
3. Use the Sliding sounds activity: (Appendix 6 )
4. Draw a slide on a piece of manila card/ board.
5. Prepare the phoneme cards e.g. /s/, /a/, /t/, [at], [sat]
6. Sound out the phoneme e.g. /s/ and put on the top,
followed by /oe/ in the middle and /t/ towards the end of the slide.
7. Move the phoneme card /a/ towards /t/ and say [at]. Place the [at] card at the
bottom of the slide. Remove the /a/ and /t/ cards. Get the pupils to practice blending
the two sounds to form [at].
8. Move the phoneme card /s/ towards [at] and sound out /s/ followed by [at] and say
[sat].
9. Put out [sat] and get pupils to sound out the word.
10. Demonstrate with the same steps for the word [mat] by changing the
phoneme card /s/ to /m/
11. Invite a pupil to try other words such as [pat], [nat]

Pupils blend the phonemes and say the words.
3. Pupils locate the objects in the pictures. Pupils takes turn to play the role of
