Sheet 2

1. What are the requirements that must be met in the Concrete Aggregate in terms of :
Shape Surface condition Grading of Aggregate surface area- rate of fine materials
2. What is the harm of having mud and fine materials in the sand, and how can we get rid of them?
3. Draw curves show the relationship between surface area of aggregate and concrete compression strength
4. Whats meant by :
Fineness Modulus Coarse Aggregate Max. Aggregate size

5. The following table summarizes the weight retained on various sieves during the sieve analysis test
for two samples of fine and coarse aggregates, it is required:
a. Combine the two aggregates if the percentage of fine aggregate in the combined is 30 %.
b. Plot the grading curve for the combined aggregate.
c. Determine the maximum aggregate size and the fineness modulus for the combined aggregate.
d. Discuss the suitability of the combined aggregate to cast a concrete element with dimensions of 25
x 70 cm, knowing that the minimum spacing between reinforcement is 3 cm.
