9 Practical Tips for

Improving in Studies

Listening with Attention

Give your full attention while listening to a


lecture/talk on the subject of your study
Listen to audio of lectures/talks referred to you
Make notes of important points; your notes are
a reflection of what you listen

Seeing and Observing

Look at drawings, diagrams, tables, or charts


shown during the lecture/talk
Observe practical demonstrations carefully and
practise them where possible
Watch video of lectures/talks/demos referred
to you

Reading with Interest

Read your brief notes after the lecture, preferably


within 1-2 hours of listening
Go through prescribed books and reference material
Subject related Audio-Visual aids may be used
Improve and develop your notes combining the
above
Highlight in colour - the concepts, formulae and
important points

Learning with Understanding

Revise your notes within the next 24 hours


Revise again within the next 3-4 days

This will help you to understand better and


retain the knowledge for a longer time
While revising you may listen to soft
instrumental music
Take short breaks at regular intervals to refresh
yourself

Writing with Concentration

Recall what you learnt by writing down the


points
Remember any formulae, technical terms or
phrases in the subject, and write them down
Make sure that what you have written down
includes all that you learnt
Repeat the above until you get it right

Visualising & Problem Solving

Make your own drawings or charts to reflect the


points you learnt
Try to study them and visualise the concepts
For subjects that include problem solving, gain
experience by trying to solve them yourself

Discussing with Involvement

Discuss the concerned subject with your friends


Perceive the way they understand and identify
useful points
Sharing of knowledge and reflecting with each
other improves your understanding of the subject

Questioning for Clarification

Clarify any doubts or questions immediately


Consult your friends, seniors, mentors or
teachers
Ensure you get answers to your questions and
understand with clarity

Contemplating in Silence

Sit in silence with eyes closed for a few minutes


everyday
Just let go of your thoughts and be a silent
observer internally
This helps you to feel refreshed and brings
calmness of mind
Improves your memory, concentration and clarity
Enhances your ability to study well.
