Useful Resources for Students of Organometallic Chemistry

Most general Inorganic Chemistry textbooks contain chapters on introductory organometallic chemistry. The
following are recommended as very good inorganic chemistry texts that may be consulted:

All potentially serious inorganic chemists should at some time read the following iconic texts:

Advanced Inorganic Chemistry 6th Ed. by Cotton, Wilkinson, Murillo and Bochmann.
Chemistry of the Elements 2nd Ed. by Greenwood and Earnshaw.

The library contains a wide variety of books and other resources on organometallic chemistry:

The Organometallic Chemistry of the Transition Metals, 4th Ed., R. H. Crabtree, John Wiley & Sons,
2005. (The library has the 3rd edition QD 172 T6 C73 2001)
Principles and Applications of Organotransition Metal Chemistry, J. P. Collman, L. S. Hegedus, J. R.
Norton, R. G. Finke, University Science Books, QD 411 C64
Organometallics, Ch. Elschenboich, A. Salzer, VCH Publishers Inc., QD 411 E4413 2006
Oxford Primer No. 12: Organometallics 1 Complexes with Transition MetalCarbon Bonds, M.
Bochmann, Oxford University Press QD 411.8 T73 B63 1994 V.1 **GOOD FOR BEGINNERS!
Oxford Primer No. 13: Organometallics 2 Complexes with Transition MetalCarbon Bonds, M.
Bochmann, Oxford University Press QD 411.8 T73 B63 1994 V.2 **GOOD FOR BEGINNERS!
Organometallic reagents in organic synthesis Bateson, J. H. QD 411 O73 1994
Organometallic chemistry: a unified approach Mehrotra, Ram C. QD 411 M397 1991
Reaction mechanisms of inorganic and organometallic systems Jordan, Robert B. QD 502 J67 1991
Organometallics in synthesis: a manual 2nd ed. Schlosser, M. QD 262 O745 2002

In general, QD 411 is the call number for books on organometallic chemistry related topics. I highly recommend
visiting the library once in a while! I will probably be using these books and similar when developing questions
for the term test and final exam (in addition to material from the primary literature).
Journals including: Organometallics, Journal of Organometallic Chemistry, Dalton Transactions, Inorganic
Chemistry, Journal of Organic Chemistry, Organic Letters, Advanced Synthesis and Catalysis.and many others.
These will all include excellent and varied examples of Organometallic Chemistry.
Reference books and Encyclopedic Sources: [Electronic Resources available through the library site]
Comprehensive Organometallic Chemistry III
Encyclopedia of Inorganic Chemistry (Very highly recommended, especially the Chapter on Zr and Hf)
There are also many useful websites out there, in particular, the organometallic hypertextbook:
