2014-15
PREFACE
The large-scale expansion of technical education system offering degree/diploma programmes in the last
one decade or so may have, by and large, satisfied the aspirations of students, parents, employers and the
public in general. However, there is a growing concern about the quality of output from the system.
Ascertaining quality largely depends upon training of faculty/staff of technical institutions, so that they play
their role effectively as agents for change and development. It is, therefore, essential that these institutions
adapt and change on a continuous basis so that inputs provided by them make a difference to upgrade the
quality of technical manpower. Even with a well-designed curriculum and provision of all resources, the
results are likely to fall short of expectations, if there is lack of competent and motivated faculty and staff, who
are not updated in contents and do not possess the requisite teaching skills.
National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh is alive to this need of
quality education in technical institutions of the country. It undertakes staff development as an on going
activity through training and re-training of the faculty and staff of technical institutions. In order to make staff
development more effective and demand-driven, the institute formulates its Annual Plan through interaction
with Secretary/ Director of Technical Education and various other stake holders in need-assessment
workshops at the state headquarters, as well as feedback from the beneficiaries through informal
interaction. Institute also undertakes Faculty Development and Quality Improvement Projects on the special
request of the states.
A total of 81 programmes have been identified by the institute to be conducted in the year 2014-15 at
NITTTR, Chandigarh and also at different institutions/ organizations. In addition, the institute also imparts
professional education and training to teachers of technical institutions in engineering and technology
disciplines and Instructional Planning and Delivery through ICT. 66 programmes have been planned to be
conducted through ICT during the year 2014-15.
It is hoped that the engineering colleges would avail of this opportunity by sponsoring maximum number of
teachers/staff for these programmes so as to produce high quality technical manpower from their
institutions.

calendar year.
