ABSTRACT
The industrial case study is meant for us to make us
familiar with the actual site conditions. I selected the site MAQ
INFRASTRUCTURE for learning the construction of road. Also the
respective engineers made us familiar with the quality control
project management, estimation and costing etc.
Also all the people and authorities working at the site are
cooperative and eager to share their knowledge with the
students.
Also it is a very big project, and I got a chance to see a new
techniques and equipments and also visualize the defects if any
during construction.
There are many things different from the actual study we did
in classroom.
So, this ICS was very essential.

CHAPTER 1:- INTRODUCTION

The industrial case study in summer 2014 from 15th may to15 th June was done at
the MAQ INFRASTRUCTURE
The MAQ INFRASTRUCTURE developing new roads in GONDIA. Area
covered by the project is 4000 m.

1.1TYPE OF STRUCTURESIts a WBM kind of road. Its full form is water bounded macadam, which was
develop by John macadam in 1820.

1. JCB

JCB(Joseph Cril Bomford) is a construction equipment manufacturing company.

Its equipment is used for earth moving as well as excavating purposes. It is highly
efficient and complex equipment and broadly used at construction sites.

2:ROLLER

Either single or double drum roller having load of 20 tonnes are used on the WBM
roads . They consist of water spraying mechanism on the road which Increases the
strength.

Tipper: It is a dump truck used to haul rock, sand gravel and anything else that
needs hauling and dumping.

Water Tanker: It is used to spread water on the layer of moorum . Water tank
was mounted on tractor body for its easy movement from one place to another.

CHAPTER 3-WORK EXPERIENCE

Day 1(17/05/14)
At the 1st day I went to the office of Anil Makijani. I got introduced
with site engg. kamlesh Tembhurne and we went site where the
construction was going on.I have chosen the katangi road for my case
study.

Day 2: (18/05/14)
It was a Sunday But I still study the Typical cross-section of 9m wide
road.

Day 3(19/05/14)
As I went to site . I visited to the office of contractor of the road Anil
Sir.I left his office with the details of site. He told me that the excavation
work of site was already done and the 1st layer of morrum(300mm
thick) has already been laid down on the road.

Day 4(20/05/14)
On that day as I reached at the site.. I saw that the roller was rolling
down on the first layer of the moorum. To increase its strength. (by
WBM Method).

Day 5(21/05/14)
On that day the same process of rolling down the roller on the first layer
of moorum was going..
After some time the site engineer make a visited to the whole site..
He also told us about the important machine which are used while
construction the road.

DAY 6 (22/05/14)
At that day the second layer of moorum(300mm thick) was laid down on
the previous layer of moorum..
with the help of JCB (JOSEPH CRIL BOMFORD)

Day 7(23/05/14)
On that day the process of rolling down the roller on the layer of
moorum was being carried out.

Day 8 (24/05/14)

As this was big site some of the excavation part was over and filling of
boulders(40 or 80mm thick) was started which was later filled with dry
moorum .

Day 9(25/05/14) (SUNDAY)

Day 10(26/05/14)
On that day the new part of excavated land was filled with boulders and
again same process of laying down the morrum was carried out.

Day 11(27/05/14)
On that day the pressing of boulders was done with the help of vibro
roller

Day 12(28/05/14)
On this day the moorrum were laid down on bolder has been watered
with the help of water tanks which was mounted on the tractor body .
This is done to fill the void of moorum. Waters converted the dry
moorum into paste which increases the strength of layer.

Day 13(29/05/14)
On that day the roller was working for pressing that layer of moorum
which was laid on the boulders sprinkled with water for increasing its
strength.

Day14(30/05/14)
On that day After this the new layer of aggregate(20 or 40mm thich) was
laid down on the previous layer of moorum .

Day 15(31/05/14)
On that day I saw that the roller was rolling down on the previous layer
of aggregate for the compaction of aggregate this was done to increase
the strength of aggregate layer.

Day 16(1/06/14)(SUNDAY)

Day17(02/06/14)
On that day I saw the same process of rolling down the roller on
the layer of aggregate was going on .

Day 18(03/06/14)
Labour payment day.

Day 19(04/06/14)
On that day I saw that the process of laying down the Layer of
churi or dust was laying on the previous layer of aggregate was
going on.

Day 20(05/05/14)
On that day I saw the same process of laying down the layer consisting
of churi, dust and bitumen was laying down on that previous layer of
aggregate for filling the voids in that layer.

CONCLUSION
Theoretical things studied in classrooms are observed practically in this
case study for one month. It is observed that things are practically
somewhat different from the ideal concepts. Some things are practically
impossible to be executed on site due to one or the other reason. In ICS

I also learned that different types of problem arrived during the practical
work on the field which could not understood in therotical study.
