6. Last year, I flew from Champaign to Dallas, TX on a regional jet. When we took off, the
flight attendant gave me a bag of potato chips as a snack. I noticed that at takeoff the bag
of chips was nearly completely inflated with air (and some chips). As we took off, the
pressure dropped in the jet from 1030 mb down to 780 mb! Once we reached our
crusining altitude I watched my chips closely waiting for the inevitable to happen. What
eventually happened to my bag of chips and why did it happen? (The picture below
is what the chips looked like on takeoff.)
