Tailored systems and solutions for utilities,

industry and infrastructure
Maintaining the balance
between economy and
ecology with continuing
globalization these are
challenges that the majority
of industries faces today.
Flexibility is becoming more
important, development
cycles are becoming shorter,
and time-to-market is
becoming crucial.
Your business success is
based on a reliable and
flexible energy supply.
This results in high
demands on suppliers of
electrical systems and
solutions.
Whether in the supply of
cities and infrastructure, or
for industrial plants with
Siemens systems and
solutions you will always
have the right solution for
a reliable and cost-efficient
energy supply whether
you are operating regionally
or globally.

Regional customers
Our maintenance-free and compact
gas-insulated switchgear support
utilities in building more costefficient and reliable grids, as well as
in integrating into smart grids.
For wind farms and turbines, our
busbar trunking systems and mediumvoltage switchgear are used, ensuring
a reliable connection to the power
grid. Energy storage solutions enable
the integration of an increasing number of wind turbines into distribution
grids, without requiring that such grids
be expanded immediately.
Modern infrastructure, such as hospitals, office buildings and airports, must
meet stringent requirements in terms
of safety, low environmental impact,
and integration of renewable energy.
Our low- and medium-voltage switchgear and busbar trunking systems
ensure a high level of safety, flexibility
and functionality.

Globally operating customers

and EPCs
In the oil and gas industry or in
mining, for example, our prefabricated solution in a container features
efficiency, safety and reliability for
supplying power under extremely
difficult environmental conditions. It
gives you an efficient and economical
alternative to conventionally installed
medium-voltage substations.
Chemical production must be
supplied with power around-theclock on a cost-efficient yet extremely
flexible basis. With our switchgear,
we offer you an efficient and reliable
energy supply.
In the automotive industry and in
data centers, busbar trunking systems
offer a stable electrical infrastructure
while providing flexibility for the connection of loads in case of subsequent
modifications or expansions.
In the metal industry or in the pulp
and paper industry i.e., wherever
large amounts of energy are required
on demand and peak loads need to be
reduced our energy storage system
offers the right solution.

Integrated solutions:
Everything from a single source
With our systems and solutions, you build a safe, reliable
and sustainable energy supply for low- and mediumvoltage, in accordance with your requirements, for
every distribution level, every power range, and every
application type. Our gas-insulated medium-voltage
switchgear particularly impress with their compactness,
zero maintenance, and climate indepedence.

A selection of our comprehensive systems is

given hereafter.

Energy storage in power distribution

ENEL S.p.A.
Molise
Italy

Requirements

As one of Europes largest utilities, Enel invests heavily in the integration of

renewable energies into the power grids. Due to the highly distributed
nature of the multiple renewable energy sources it is necessary to take
account of the fluctuating feeds, and offset the effects to ensure a stable
and high-quality supply for their customers.

Solution

In February 2012, a SIESTORAGE energy storage system was put into

operation with a power of 1 MVA and a capacity of 500 kWh.
SIESTORAGE helps ENEL to offset load and voltage fluctuations within
milliseconds. The system acts either as an additional source of energy,
or absorbs peaks in generation. It is not necessary for large power plants
to intervene.

Value added

Improved system availability and safety of all machines and devices

Busbar trunking systems and low-voltage switchboards in infrastructure

Sddeutscher Verlag
Munich
Germany

Requirements

Planning of the new group headquarters included the development of a

power concept that went far beyond the requirements of the energy-saving
regulations applicable at the time. The concept also fulfilled the clients
rigorous requirements in terms of sound insulation.
In addition, the building and building services were to be flexibly adaptable
to fast-paced changes in the publishing and editorial industry.

Solution

Integrating the aspects of cost-efficiency, sustainability and fire load, the

planners chose to use a modular and space-saving SIVACON S8 low-voltage
power distribution board as well as SIVACON 8PS busbar trunking systems for
power transportation and distribution up to the storeys. The busbar trunking
system also forms the basis for the integrated overall concept from Siemens.

Pepsi
Moscow
Russia

Requirements

Pepsis iced tea filling facility on the south side of Moscow is one of the most
modern plants in Russia, extending over a length of 300 meters. An important
requirement for its smooth operation is a safe and reliable power distribution.
Already in the planning phase, Pepsi decided for a uniform solution that
should provide a high degree of consistency, reliability and flexibility.

Solution

The overall low- and medium-voltage solution is based on the Totally Integrated
Power concept from Siemens. Using the planning software SIMARIS design,
all components necessary for power distribution were dimensioned precisely,
conveniently and quickly from the GEAFOL transformers and NXPLUS C
medium-voltage switchgear to the SIVACON S8 low-voltage power distribution
board and up to the SIVACON 8PS busbar trunking systems.

QP Shell
Qatar

Requirements

For a refinery located in Qatar, QP Shell required three containerized

modules for a flexible and reliable power supply in accordance with Shells
high requirements for HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment).

Solution

Siemens delivered three container modules for one E-House on cast in situ
foundation. Siemenss scope of supply also comprised the design, engineering,
purchasing, fabrication, erection, testing and commissioning.
