MISSION OF DEPARTMENT
Ethnic & Intercultural Services leads students and the university in an understanding of interculturalism that
transforms Loyola Marymount University into a community, in which all persons gifts are enriched and
empowered.

POSITION SUMMARY
Fieldwork assessment specialist responsibilities include student evaluations (surveys, listening sessions, focus
groups) and implementing a student learning outcome assessment plan for the ethnic and intercultural services
participants. Planning and conducting program evaluation and outcomes assessment of student-facing services.
This position will complete projects requiring qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis in
collaboration with EIS Department. This position will also be responsible for managing data and technology
involved in storing, managing and sharing assessment and evaluation data. In additions, this position will help
create executive summaries for the data collected.

Other duties include assisting in the coordination of culturally relevant and intentional programs and assessment of
programs and services. Applicants must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as be
comfortable speaking in front of groups as well as the ability to assist with programs that may occur evenings and
weekends as needed.

This fieldwork position will work with staff members, undergraduate students and guest professionals while
coordinating projects and publications. This is a hands-on learning opportunity and is a non-paid position.

HIRING CRITERIA

o Graduate student status required.
o Understanding of diversity and the needs of the historically underserved and underrepresented
students in higher education.
o Strong background in data analysis and written communication.
o A genuine concern for underserved and under presented populations and their academic success.
o Creativity and initiative are required, as well as the ability to work independently.
o Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills.
o Ability to work with others to accomplish tasks.
o Highly motivated, responsible and ability to work with students is a must.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate student in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling or a related field such as higher education,
student affairs administration, quantitative methods, or related field or a combination of education and
experience required. This field work will specifically focus on the competencies listed below. These
competencies will be fostered partially through this position.

Sensitivity to transitional issues and needs among first-year/first-generation college students

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of university policies and procedures

Knowledge of student development theory

Experience in educational counseling, teaching or related work experience in higher education

Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including skill in making oral and written
presentations through various media formats to colleagues or subordinates to provide information,
instructions, or explain subjects of interest.

Ability to communicate complex ideas and processes in a manner that is understood by professionals with
varying backgrounds and responsibilities at the University.

Familiar with the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) standards and
guidelines for Student Affairs.

HOURS
8-10 per week, M-F and some evening and weekends.

START DATE
Spring 2015

APPOINTMENT
One semester (academic year) with possible renewal for second term.
