Business Card
Description: Matching stationery (letterhead and business card)
which are personally designed.
Date: 11/8/2014
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 8
Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Indesign
Objectives: Create a new logo to fit a company. Design consistent
layout for a business card and letterhead. Use basic tools in Adobe
Illustrator and Adobe Indesign.
Process: I created the logo in Illustrator. I traced a giraffe clip art and
then picked a font to best fit the look and height of the giraffe. I saved
both the logo and just the giraffe so I could use it later on in InDesign.
Then I took the logo into InDesign and created a business card. I
took the giraffe print from the internet and put it on the back of my
business card. Then I took my logo and put it on a flag that I made
from the line tool. Then I added the information on the back in the
same flag with just the giraffe.

the opacity of the giraffe to that its clear to read and the message.
Then, I added the necessary contact information on the bottom left.

Flier
Description: Black and White flier to promote a graduate
leadership conference.
Date: 10/12/2014
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 8
Ben Pingel
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Indesign
Objectives: Apply the design principles and rules of typography.
Use basic skills and tools in Indesign to create the flier layout.
Create a project folder will all of the necessary components to
keep them all linked.
Process: The first thing I did was sketch out four different layouts. I
then used one of my sketches as a guide to create a shape map in
Adobe InDesign. In my design, I used the black circles as well as
the line through it for repetition. I lowered the opacity for the image
and used bigger, black text for the title to create a good focal point.
I also kept my body copy small. I was given the image, logo and
content for this flier.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop and TextWrangler
Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo as a .png file.
Write content about the company. Design a web page using
HTML and CSS to display a logo, content and images. Apply basic
understanding of both HTML and CSS. Identify hex colors for the
CSS design. Compress multiple files into a zipped folder.
Process: I created this web page through a program called
TextWrangler. After coding the context for HTML, I attached a CSS
file that was pre-made into my HTML context. Then in Photoshop, I
got the hex code for the colors used in my logo to use on my web
page. I entered the hex codes so that they would match perfectly. I
also changed the fonts to Coming Soon and PT Sans. I also entered
some web safe fonts as a backup just in case when some computers
cant open these certain fonts, itll come up with the same category
of font. I changed the padding so that the wording isnt so close to
the end of my webpage. It makes it easier to read as well. I did this
for the second header as well.
Montage
Description: An inspirational, spiritual montage made by the
blending of two images and the use of typography

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives: Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn how to blend
images together smoothly using masks and filters. Apply the right
typography.
Process: I cropped the back image to 8.5 x 11 layout. Then I opened
up the top image of my husband and I and selected just our heads. I
added it to the back image and added a mask. With black paint and
100% opacity I painted away the hard edges. Then I changed the
opacity to 35% and blended the image to make it match the back
image. I then added two contrasting fonts to make it stand out.

Program(s)/Tools:
Canon Rebel T3i and Adobe Photoshop
Objectives: Learn photography skills. Use a high quality camera to
upload and edit the image in Adobe Photoshop. Learn basic editing
skills including brightness, contrast, levels, saturation and hue.
Process: First, I chose a color scheme for this project. I decided on a
Tetradic color scheme and to use the colors blue, purple, orange and
yellow. I then modeled my sister in front of a backdrop that I have for
my photography that had these exact colors and took a high quality
image with good light, focus and composition. I used my Canon Rebel
T3i with a 50 mm f/1.8 lens. I then brought my image into Photoshop
and edited it using specific instructions and techniques. I used levels,
selective color, saturation, and sharpness. After this, I opened up a
118.5 layout and inserted my image. I brought in the color wheel so I
could make sure I get the right colors. I used the eye dropper to do this
and dropped the color into the shape elements I used. I included flags
of the colors I used, with the name of the color in them. I included a
quote to tie in the image.
