Course Description:

This course will be focused on developing principles of drawing and movement analysis for
various disciplines of digital media, interactive art, internet based art, games and gaming, live
performance multi-media, film/video, visual art, theatre, dance, and music.

Study will include figure expression involving gesture drawing, movement analysis and design
study, rhythm, dynamics, motivation and gesture, form and phrasing, balance, time and space,
and empirical observation skills.

Groundwork for developing your artistic intent, your new work, experiments and progressive,
relevant expressions, and your creative imagination are goals for this course.

Attendance Policy: One (1) unexcused absence permitted; however each subsequent unexcused
absence will result in the lowering of one full letter grade per absence.
Two late arrivals (15 minutes + after the hour) will count as one absence.

Required Supplies: Large Sketchpad

Drawing instruments (pencils, pens, etc.)
Journal-Workbook

Grading Procedure:

Performance Work 35%

Class Participation 20%
Sketchbook Drawings 15%
Journal-Workbook 15%
Presentation 15%

A grade of Incomplete may be given, at the discretion of the instructor of record for a course,
when a student has completed at least 70% of the required course material but cannot
complete all requirements by the end of the semester. An incomplete course grade (grade of X)
must be completed within the time period specified by the instructor, not to exceed eight
weeks from the first day of the subsequent long semester. Upon completion of the required
work, the symbol X may be converted into a letter grade (A through F) by the instructor. If the
grade of Incomplete is not removed by the end of the specified period, it will automatically be
changed to F. Extension beyond the specified limit can be made only with the permission of the
instructor and the student’s ADU (or the Undergraduate Dean in the case of students without
declared majors). A student may not re-enroll in a course in which a grade of X remains.

Academic Dishonesty:
A high level of responsibility and academic honesty is expected. A student must demonstrate a
high standard of individual honor in his or her scholastic work.
Scholastic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, statements, acts or omissions related to
applications for enrollment or the award of a degree, and/or the submission as one’s own work
of material that is not one’s own. As a general rule, scholastic dishonesty involves one of the
following acts: cheating, plagiarism, collusion and/or falsifying academic records. Students
suspected of academic dishonesty are subject to disciplinary proceedings.

Course Outline: *

The course will be divided through out the semester in movement studies, drawing
explorations, and analysis integration:

Movement studies will include posture and alignment, locomotor and non-locomotor
movement, impetus and qualities of force, levels, spatial direction, focus, rhythm, resultant
rhythm, range of movement and spatial awareness, form and phrasing, music, symmetry and
asymmetry, opposite and successional.
Drawing explorations will involve gesture, movement studies and composition elements.
Analysis integration will be implemented through exercises and assignments.

Each student will give a 10-minute presentation on a selected artist or selected work to be
scheduled in the second half of the semester.
