-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------TRANSLATION OF MUSIC INTO ARCHITECTURE (LAYERS OF SOUND AND

SPACE):
SOUND SPACE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------INTRODUCTION:
---------------- Architecture is frozen music (Madame de Steel) --------------- Can music and architecture be related?
With many similarities of progressions , compositions , order and other theories
and principles governing the two respected disciplines , its possible to
influence the character of a built form with musical progressions , and also
generate an impact ( physiological and psychological ) on the activities it
houses within .
It would be best to translate the variables ( time ,pitch ,harmonics ) and
principles (progressions ,order ,harmonies ) of music into architecture (with
relating architectural design theories and principles )and hence ,design a space
around aural perceptions to create a harmonized environment and one which
would magnify the expressive dimensions of music and sound .
There has always, beside the above mentioned parallel parameters, been an
aesthetic connection between architecture and music.
The country had always been influenced by varying styles of music and other
supportive arts, though derived from or created within. With mounting cultures of
music throughout the region and different genres becoming and defining a part of the
young performer in todays context, one would require a place to learn, reproduce and
perform in order to thrust forward and make use of the present day talent of
performing available to broaden and promote regional and national interests rather
than remain confined to seasonal performances or performances that have no stable
focal point. I look to design, in this context, a Music Village, to incorporate these
needs in a well-located hub of year-round musical activity and with it, set forth an
iconic statement and importance regarding the promotion of such typologies and the
respected performing art cultures need.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------OBJECTIVES:
GENERAL: To design a place which houses spaces for performing activities of
music .To provide a year-round music school and performance venue. Also
provided with these are venues for musically influenced dance performances and
theatrics.
To design a place which provides a sound environment for learning,
practicing, recording, and primarily performing the respected art form.
Using musical proportions to define the design of the built form, spatial
organisation, etc. rather than standard proportional systems and otherwise .This
will be influential in material study, acoustics, and spatial progressions. To use
in differential volume organisations and study its impact.
Understand and create a separating definition between loud spaces and quiet
spaces within the built area and with respect to the areas surrounding it.
To understand the approach to problems regarding acoustics and an approach
implying acoustical design.
To design spaces to accommodate congregation and likewise understand the
facilitation of the process of the opposite.
To understand and achieve the requirements of circulation, safety, security,
visual transparency and other governing factors regarding the performance
venues and the supporting spaces that surrounds them.
To adequately create a learning environment for the music school.
To create an environment thats inviting to artists, bands, etc. (amateur, semiprofessional, professional).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------DESIGN OF A HABITABLE BRIDGE HORIZONTAL SKYCRAPER

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------INTRODUCTION:
With rising requirements of the urban matrix and various proposals coming into the
scene to accommodate and support the qualities of civic space and street activities, I
wish to propose a continuous horizontal land-scraper connecting either two banks of
a riverfront or the same merging and blending into the urban fabric within an urban
matrix, in which habitations of various forms co-exist, such as living accommodation
of different types combining recreational and cultural spaces. This scheme should be
able to cover an area similar to a city region. These highly varied programs is
imagined as a city terminal serving the public with a mixture of commercial, cultural,
retail and recreational spaces and, thus facilitate interaction and urban performance.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OBJECTIVE:
GENERAL: To design a habitable bridge in order to act as a bridge of urban
material to facilitate urban performance and therewith increase the solutions to
meet the requirements of a growing urban population.
To design commercial, retail and accommodation along with other spaces as
recreational spaces, etc.
To understand the urban requirements of the region of the city that would
require such a development.
Examination of ways in which street activity and creative usage of space could
be developed to maximize residential and commercial potential.
To understand the formative elements of the bridge as a response to the
existing condition of the urban blocks it connects.
To maximize urban performance and with it facilitate interaction of spaces and
people.
Efficient Waste Disposal Strategies if site chosen is a riverfront.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SCOPE:
This project should look to facilitate the urban performance which would
include the following spaces that looks to incorporate :
Free Flow Public Access Programs.
Private Access Programs.
o Zoning and Design of Spaces with provisions of public realms to
support interaction and facilitate the success of commercial and retail
areas will be one amongst the list of priorities.
o COMMERCIAL AND RETAIL 30% coverage:
Office spaces.
Shopping Stalls and Centres.
Restaurants.
Mall(s).
o ACCOMODATION 20% coverage:
Residential.
Workshops/Studio + Residential.
o RECREATIONAL 10% coverage:
Convention and Exhibition Areas.
o PLAZAS
Covered Plazas.
Uncovered Plazas.
A Vehicular Routing Strategy may also be implied if required
according to site oriented requirements.
Design of Urban Parks with other amenities such as Transformers and Fire
Safety Access and Systems shall also be taken into consideration.
Provisions or Schemes for Future Expansion and similar scale developments
within the region shall be studied and looked into.
Connection Patterns and Volume Guided Route Connections shall be evaluated
so as to maximize the flow within.

DESIGN OF AN EXHIBITION PAVILION AND EXPO

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------INTRODUCTION:
Exhibition design refers to the creation of a permanent environment through
temporary or permanent space with the purpose of displaying, conveying or
promoting a product, brand, service, idea, view, message or information to an
audience. It is the organized display of works of art, science and industry for the
purpose of stimulating public interest, expanding trade and illustrating the progress
and accomplishments of one or wide varieties of productive activities. Visitors
attracted to this type of display are not primarily interested in buying anything but
attend because of the exhibitions educational and entertainment value.
It is a great stage for head to head, business-to-business communication for exhibitors
and visitors from any branch of the industry. Every year manufacturers, suppliers,
agents of all kinds of services and industries spend more and more time and money
striving to outdo their competitors and impress their customers with lavish, often short
lived displays of their products and services.
As a three dimensional marketing tool, exhibitions provide, opportunities for the
brand development that are lacking in two-dimensional media. In order to develop the
social and economic levels of a particular region and other additional concepts of
promotion and marketing, theres an obvious need for the design of a pavilion.
Provided with catering to these needs, an open dialogue is required between the urban
fabric and these spaces, with provisions to either provide a refuge from or to
entertain the urban fabric.
Most importantly, it is required that these structures should offer flexibility enough to
support the diverse activities and scales that it may house within and around.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------OBJECTIVES:
GENERAL: To design spaces which houses activities for exhibiting, promoting and
sales as well to an extent? To provide a venue that would either merge with or offer
a refuge from the urban fabric without dampening the human experience.

To design a place which provides a dynamic environment for carrying out the
functions of an exhibition space and act as a focal point for the awakening
aspirations in the field of technology, science ,education, art and social welfare
and in international relation.
Using flexibility of structure to define the extent of flexibility in design and
supporting multiple activities at different intervals.
To understand the surrounding urban fabric and decide on a mode of approach
to categorize and sustain the type of environment within the site and spaces
supporting it and thus, to enhance and not compromise on its impact on the
human experience aside from economical and social concerns.
To create an environment thats inviting to the public and brands, ideas,
services, products, etc.
To approach this with other supporting facilities.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SCOPE:
This dissertation deals with the design of an Exhibition pavilion. The said built up
area would consist of the following:

Exhibition Areas.
Convention Hall.
Pavilions.
Plazas.
o Covered plazas.

Details and landscape features to incorporate the cultivar concept.
o Cultivar is a portmanteau from the words cultivated and variety-a
botanical term for hybrids of particularly desirable selections from plant
species and hence implying it in the redefinition of the region through
the incorporation of international artifacts in architecture, art, landscape,
technology, retail and popular culture.
