The Big Data Dilemma

The digital universe, all the data created and copied

worldwide, totaled 4.4 zettabytes in 2013.

That number is doubling every two years and will reach 40

zettabytes by 2020.

That equals 40 trillion gigabytes or 5,200 GB for every person

on earth.

The Big Data Drivers

Volume: Growing volumes of data generated by
transactions, more online postings, more data from
sensors and embedded systems ("Internet of Things").

Variety: Big data goes beyond structured alphanumeric

data (such as financial transactions) to include
unstructured data such as documents, social media
postings, emails, video and graphics, and audio.

Velocity: Data is moving much more quickly today and

often needs to be processed and analyzed in real time.

Legacy Business Reporting And Analytics

Software
Why traditional business analytics applications often fail:
Too complex, designed for use by analysts, not
managers and everyday information workers.
Require heavy involvement from IT developers.
Not designed to work in real time.
Provide "rear-view mirror" analysis of historic results, not
current operational data.

Democratizing Big Data With Next-Generation

Business Analytics Tools
Data visualization capabilities and dashboards make
data analytics more accessible to a wider audience.
Tools are more interactive.
Tools provide real-time analysis.
Use of social media and collaboration tools to share the
results.
Growing use of mobile analytics to deliver information to
smartphones and tablets.

Key Trends In Business Analytics

Increased use of embedded analytics within applications

1. "Internet of Things" is driving demand for real-time
analytics.

Use of cloud for data storage and analytics:

1. Cloud analytics platforms: Pay-as-you-go: Amazon
Redshift, Microsoft Azure and Google Analytics.
2. No longer need to spend months/years and millions of
dollars building a data warehouse.

Next-generation NoSQL databases such as CouchBase, MongoDB

and Cassandra are better able to handle unstructured data,
documents, etc.

The Role Of The Channel

Generate license, consulting and service revenue.
Opportunities for ISVs, information service providers and
SaaS providers to embed business analytics capabilities
within their applications.
Leverage solution provider expertise in vertical
industries.

Industry-specific consulting services.

Develop vertical-market metrics for analysis and
performance management.

The Role Of The Channel (Con't)

Opportunities in data management, integration and

preparation services.
Drive additional sales of related products and
technologies.
Expand role of "trusted advisor" by becoming more
involved in a client's high-level goals and strategies.

Big Data, Big Opportunity

Big data was an $18.6 billion market in 2013 (Wikibon):
Services $7.4 billion (40 percent)
Hardware $7.1 billion (38 percent)
Software $4.1 billion (22 percent)
Will grow to $28.5 billion this year and $50.1 billion in 2017.
Global BI and analytics market will grow from $13.9 billion in
2013 to $20.8 billion in 2018 CAGR of 8.3 percent (Source:
MarketsandMarkets).
Cloud-based BI will grow from $750 million in 2013 to $2.94
billion in 2018.
