PRE-TEACHING GRAMMAR

T. writes these sentence on the board:
My friend Abdou is not good at English. One
day he told me this: I would like to improve
my English. What should I do?
I told him: You should join the English club.
You should not keep quite in English
classes.
Then he reads them and asks two or three
students to read.
After that he underlines the sentences
containing should, and asks the following
questions.
1- What are the conjugated forms of
the underlined sentences?
2- How is the verb of each sentence
formed?
3- What is the nature of should?

give other modals.

when giving advice.
We use should :
- In the affirmative form: To express a
weak advice, to say what is good. Should
+ infinitive without to
T. asks students to give their own examples.
Example: You should come to school on
time.
- In the negative form: shouldnt is the
negative form of should, to say what is
not good.
Should not + infinitive without to.
T. asks students to give their own examples.
Example: You shouldnt talk while the
teacher is speaking.
- In the interrogative form: To ask what is
good.
Should + subject + infinitive without to.
T. asks students to give their own examples.
Example: Should I buy an English book?
After teaching the grammar structures, the
teacher asks the learners to open their copy
books and copy down the lesson.
