Narrator: [we will be showing how negotiations and conflicts occur in 2 sectors. Government and private
sector.

Scenario 1: Government office recruitment in which there are two interviewees. One has come due
to merit and the other through sources.
Interviewer: Roshin
Annoyed Official: Pulla
Shonit: Filler
Kuku: Lead Role
Prashanti: Another official
Scene1: Shonith running around so as to get some tender passed [normal working day at the office].
Shonith gets irritated running around. These government officials are very selfish and rude.
Scene2: Here Kuku enters the office of the official and an interview takes place. (Selective perception,
cultural differences). The interviewer asks tough questions. Kuku answers all confidently. He asks him to
come another day.
There is a discussion on his wages. And Kuku is hell-bent on a higher salary as he has done a degree from
a reputed college and has a very rich work experience. [Roshin- distributive bargainer is also a
disagreeable introvert (page 499 ORD)
We show here one type of distributive Bargaining (Short term Interest).

In which Roshin wins and Kuku loses.
Roshin: I know that you are very intelligent and with a good work exp. But I have deadlines to meet
and if you do not agree then I will have to look out for another candidate
Kuku ends up thinking I am dire need of a job and money but this jerk is behaving like this. Ultimately
he accepts the offer with hesitation

INTEGRATIVE BARGAINING

Scenario 2:
Conflicts that could arise due to malfunctions in day to day operations
Accident in the factory owing to the poor working conditions and safety me
chanisms.

Now the supervisor and HR manager are having a conversation.

Here we could observe that there is an intrapersonal conflict within roshin and in the interest of the
employee, he conceals the fact of negligence on the part of employee for greater good of the work
force.

The management blames it on the supervisor and the supervisor in turn blames it on the employees for
his negligence.

Blame game between the management and the supervisor.

Here both [management and employees] are guilty of being complacent in taking the proper safety
measures.

Here we are showing collaboration (another type of integrative bargaining) and Leadership.
One cannot do without the other.

Scene 3:

Even though the supervisor have complained to the manager about the deteriorating condition of
machinery, management didnt took the complaints seriously.
Over a period of time, several accidents took place at the workplace
Strike in the factory regarding improvisation of working conditions and increase in wage rate.

SCENE: ACT
Here we could see that the negotiation process has failed and both the parties could not reach to a
conclusion regarding the wage rates.

Here we will be showing Distributive Bargaining with a Neutral Party Mediator.


Prashanthi is well known lawyer who has been called as a neutral mediator.
