Research Summary
Dr. LI Bing Nan obtained dual Ph.D. degrees in bioengineering and electronics
engineering respectively. He owns around 10 years of research experience in
the interdisciplinary field of biomedical engineering. Dr. Li has made
significant contributions to physiological measurements as well as biomedical
computing. His works on magnetic resonance elastography were jointly
supported by the National University of Singapore (NUS, Singapore) and the
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS, Japan). His works on
cardiovascular health monitoring and computational interpretation attracted
over 2-million grants from the Macau Science & Technology Development
Fund (FDCT, Macau) and the Research Committee of University of Macau
(UMRC). The outcomes contributed to 2 patents, over 15 referred papers, and
5 oral presentations in premier conferences. Dr. Li was a major contributor to
the blood band information system for the Macau Blood Transfusion Center.
His works on blood bank computing have been reported in 1 book chapter and
4 journal papers. Currently Dr. Li sits in the editorial boards of two
international journals, and serves to 5 SCI journals for peer reviewing.
Research Descriptions
Magnetic Resonance Elastography
This was a JSPS-NUS project. Manual
palpation is subjective and limited to
accessible organs. Magnetic resonance
elastography (MRE) enables us to
conduct quantitative palpation on
internal organs. The objective of this
project was to develop an efficient MRE
system for noninvasive elasticity
imaging. We have made significant
contributions to MRE actuation systems,
imaging sequences and the algorithms
for elasticity reconstruction.
Level Set Methods
Level set methods (LSM) provide a powerful numerical framework for partial
differential equations. We contributed a
new unified level set formulation to deal
with the shortcomings of traditional
Hamilton-Jacobi and Mumford-Shah
models. We explored the potentials of
LSM for medical image enhancement
and soft tissue modeling. The works
have led to over 6 refereed papers.
