Basic Information
Engraving fonts are fonts that were developed specifically for rotary engraving purposes. The characters in each
font were 'programmed' or 'laid out' by hand in a graphic drawing program. The advantage here is efficiency. From
single line fonts (Gothic, Futura), to multi-stroke fonts such as Helvetica 6 line, efficient cutter 'paths' were
designed into each character to provide quick, accurate engraving. The term 'paths' used here describes exactly
that. A computerized rotary engraver simply follows a path to create the object (in this case a character).
A Gothic 'G' (left) and a Helvetica 6 Line 'H' (right). As a single line font, it is easy to see that Gothic would
engrave very quickly and efficiently (however at larger character heights would require a cutter larger than perhaps
available). Multi stroke fonts such as Helvetica 6 Line provide a bolder look by increasing the number of 'paths' the
cutter has to follow to generate the character. An advantage to multi stroke fonts is the ability engrave larger
character heights using small to average sized cutters. A disadvantage is increased engraving time.
Another advantage when using multi stroke fonts is obvious when engraving 'serif' style fonts such as this Roman
4 line 'R'. A smaller cutter has the ability to reach the 'tips' of serifs (where a small cut is necessary), and the side
by side multi stroke 'paths' will generate the wider, bolder portion of the character.

Purchasing New (Single) Fonts
Purchasing All Fonts or Individual Fonts
1. From your desktop, click on the Start button
2. Select Programs | Xenetech Graphic Workstation | Xenetech Installation Utility.
3. Click on the Install Additional Fonts button.
4. Call Xenetech (have your credit card ready).
A Xenetech represenative must be on hand to assist you in installing fonts.
If the All Fonts option was purchased:

A confirmation dialog of You are about to install Xenetech All Fonts. Do you want to continue? will appear.
Choosing Yes will proceed with backing up the original \XFILES\FNT directory, followed by the All Fonts
installation.
If the All Fonts option was not purchased:
The individual font selector dialog will appear displaying all of the Xenetech fonts. Selecting one of the fonts will
require a password to install the font.
