Warm Up Activity:

Teacher should have a line of dominoes standing on end across a table.

Hold the paper towel tube at a slight angle at the front dominoes.
Release the marble down the tube starting a chain reaction of the dominoes falling.
Teacher will ask students what caused the dominoes to fall? (the marble) What happened when
the marble rolled down the tube? (It knocked the dominoes down) Have you ever done
something like this before?
Teacher will explain that the marble was the cause and the dominoes falling were the effect.
Can you give me an example of cause and effect that happened outside of school?

Lesson Sequence:

Teacher will model cause and effect using a circular story map based on If You Give a Mouse
a Cookie on the SMARTboard pulling sticks to call on students to write on the story map with
teacher guidance.
Teacher will read the cause and effects cards out loud and have students place them under the
proper column on the pocket chart by choosing sticks to call on students.
Students will cut out and match the cause and effect cards based on the pocket chart and then
glue them on to a separate piece of paper.
Teacher will model the numbers 4 and 5 for students.
Students will copy as teacher writes the numbers in the air.
Students will complete worksheets for writing numbers 4 and 5.
