Background:
This is day three of a 3 week thematic unit based on the series of If You Give a books by
Laura Numeroff.
Students will use their prior knowledge of dominoes and marbles to help them make
connections.
Students will use their prior knowledge of number recognition to learn to write the numbers
4 and 5.
Content Objective(s):
Students will be able to identify cause and effect by making the correct matches with 80%
accuracy.
Students will be able to write the number 4 and 5 with 90% accuracy.

Warm Up Activity:
Lesson Sequence:
Teacher will model cause and effect using a circular story map based on If You Give a Mouse
a Cookie on the SMARTboard pulling sticks to call on students to write on the story map with
teacher guidance.
Teacher will read the cause and effects cards out loud and have students place them under the
proper column on the pocket chart by choosing sticks to call on students.
Students will cut out and match the cause and effect cards based on the pocket chart and then
glue them on to a separate piece of paper.
Teacher will model the numbers 4 and 5 for students.
Students will copy as teacher writes the numbers in the air.
Students will complete worksheets for writing numbers 4 and 5.
Accommodations:
Students that are struggling can be partnered up with another student that has a firm grasp on
the material we are covering.
Students are grouped based upon their current ability levels. Groups change often depending
on the content being taught.
Teacher will work one on one if needed.
